I'd never suggest you would steal their joke (I just swear I've heard it before).
And I have used someones joke before (but I did exchange a few with him first of all of course).
Yeah, my writing partner once gave me a joke to use as a punchy opener only for me to find out a few gigs later that it was someone elses. That was embarassing.
