Do states have an allocated timezone or are there some places that it cuts through? That might be a really stupid question, sorry! I am absolutely fascinated by time divisions and how humans deal with them

I'm in the Central time zone. The United States covers 9 time zones: 6 for the 50 states and the rest for territories, etc.

So does each state only have one timezone?

So does each state only have one timezone?

No, several states are in 2 different time zones.

7:17 PM; we're 6 hours behind the UK.

And the rest!

*guffaws at own joke*

So how do 'local' businesses deal with that? (I realise you don't live in all of America so do feel free to tell me to research it myself)

As the map illustrates, the time zone boundaries are shifted if it makes sense. Nevada is in California's time zone because it is an economic powerhouse and most of the tourists come from there. The westernmost portion of a state will slide over one zone if they are closer in proximity to another major metropolitan zone than they are to the rest of the states.

It's not much of a problem in the U.S., but I can complain about having to arrange business conference calls with Europeans at midnight because they were appalled at the idea of working outside of their comfortable 9-5 working hours. ;)

What do you do for work?

Satellite stuff.

Tellys or planets?

Both.

Aww. Wish I had Chinese. Yumm.

Chinese New Year today.

it is the Year of the Water Dragon.

(Loch Ness Monster ??)

I know my Chinese years. Last year was the year of the rabbit and next will be the year of the snake.

The story behind it is that all the 12 animals competed in a swiming race to win their place in the calendar. I did a big project on it at school. *Shine SWOT badge*

Ellie and Mr JP randomly bumped into BillWill on Saturday. Very nice to see him too!

Are you guys swingers?
