Well the main reason I have them is I now do a lot of online penpal/parcel swapping and you are normally required to have them, not to force people to get that stuff but mainly so people can see your taste and insure they send you something you will like. I actually find it hard to add stuff as I am hopeless at asking for things. I normally just ask for bubble bars at Christmas which annoys the hell out of my friends who want to shake me.
Most online lists don't actually reveal stuff like who bought what and when so I can't actually see how it's a competition. I guess they are more useful for weddings and baby showers than just individuals though.
What I don't get are people who make the lists and post them on everything in the hope that perfect strangers will buy them stuff for the sake of it. How does that work?
But I like to see other peoples because I'm nosy and sometimes you find something you like yourself.
