Out of interest, how old were you when you wrote something that you first thought 'Hey, this is good and I believe I can make it as a writer'? Something which you're still really proud of.
Probably around August last year, with my script Welcome To Stripe which got good feedback on this forum and from Baby Cow Productions. I co-wrote it with someone and although it still had it's faults I genuinely thought it had a great plot, some good characters and a good variety of humour. Since then I feel I've written better and with every new script I do I learn from my mistakes and it's all the better for it. When I first wrote a sitcom script a few years ago it was awful, like a copy of what I'd seen on TV, but I think what I'm doing now has my own style to it, obviously it's still influenced by my favourite comedies but I mean that's always doing to be prevalent. I think I have plot structure down very well, I'm getting better at 'proper gag' writing within the script as well as funny situations and dialogue. I think character defining is still the area I need work on because I find myself working really hard on a couple of the main characters but then the lesser characters get left behind, so yeah still lots to learn but I'm really enjoying what I'm doing.
