I like the user names people pick for themselves. It makes it a more colourful place. Why would anybody want a forum filled with Simon Apleys and Carole Smithertons? Or Daves and Jennys? No, give me Smudged Wisdom Tooth and KookyKunt5 every time.
Yes, I agree but it does'nt address why some people know who is behind the name 'Lord Haw Haw' and others who will feel intimidated, and unsure if their posts or critique writing will be 'impartial' or a 'generic' response.

Sooty I always tackle tough subjects, that is my perogative, like it or shove it. IT is difficult but love open discussions and appreciate other peoples responses without predjudice. excuse spelling.

It's not a particular contentious subject. Just a perenial irritant.

I've been around here for 2 years now and I haven't met anyone in the flesh (or fur in Sootyj's case). I don't feel second best as a result.

There are some people who do use their real names on this board - I think it's maybe because they hope they might catch the attention of people who can give them work. However, there are a lot of very strange/weird people on the internet, Dellas, as I'm sure you know. Lee Henman's experience says it all - think it was before you joined - when he had to involve the Police because of very nasty anonymous letters being sent to an employer.
I, for one, wouldn't be happy about somebody like Teddypaddalack knowing anything about my real life - I managed to upset him (didn't we all!) quite inadvertently, then found he was 'stalking' all my posts, obviously trying to build up any info he could.
It's always possible to make closer contact with people by pm.
