Absolutely. And his parents are idiots for asking why they didn't just shoot him once "to bring him down." A good rule of thumb: if you point a gun at a cop you're going to die.

'Looks are a big part of how our futures pan out - there shouldn't be a stigma around wanting to look good."
Thing is, much as I hate it, this is unfortunately true to some extent. Daily Mail and Closer and all media are completely complicit in this and are being astonishingly hypocritical in pushing articles and advertising that demonise people who aren't 'perfect' and tell society that you can buy your way to fulfillment.
And sadly, we're all complicit in this family's attitude every time we make a bitchy 'joke' about how someone looks, or buy from a company that sells or has shares in products such as inappropriate clothing for kids, or pole dancing as empowered exercise, or a product modelled by an unachievable airbrushed image even if we know it's make-believe.
The article is dramatic because it's about a child, but since when she gets to sixteen and can consent to surgery, she'll have had almost two decades of being exposed to this soul-destroying attitude that is entirely prevalent and seemingly unavoidable, she'll probably be well chuffed to have these 'investments' and will feel justified and sensible because everywhere she looks she'll see these same messages that say 'you are not successful or happy unless you look like this'.

There's no denying that there is some pressure to look a certain way, but few women -- even those who can afford it -- actually submit to surgery to "enhance" their looks.

A helluva lot more than one would've thought of a sentient species do. There will always be gullible or vulnerable (or just plain thick) people in any society during any time, I just think that media should look a bit closer to home before slagging off individuals.
Remember 'surgery' in this case doesn't just mean full face overhauls, but also things like botox and lip injections etc.
I am undecided as to whether more women do it than we think, or fewer!
'Cos I don't actually know anyone personally whose had something done. But then I don't know any morons.

You've had botox?

In my buttox.
He's not called Da Butt for nothing!
Lol. Oh that's a horrible idea.

Yeah, I have a hard time cracking a smile.
How about walnuts?

Can I please be excused from the 'we' in your statement? It's like when you're watching a news programme and they say 'Why are we all obsessed by the X Factor?' or 'Why do we love celebrity gossip so much?'
I don't want to be lumped in with a bunch of fickle, Heat Magazine reading, dullards who give a shit about Cheryl Cole's marriage or what Kate Winslet wore to the Oscars.
Now, if you'll excuse me, ITV2 is showing yet another programme featuring Petre Andre wandering about and I can't miss it!

Butt of course.
