And now a republican congress stimy the 2 most essential elements of saving the economy. SLashing bloated defence spending and bringing the rich back into the tax club.

I think you'll find that Democrats also oppose big cuts in defence spending. While you're at it, take a look at how much we spend on social programs vs. defence. They dwarf defence spending.

I used to have an American brother in law and one thing I learned was never to argue American politics with a switched on American, because they are light years ahead of us when it comes to knowledge of their politics compared to our knowledge of ours !

I am far from a rabid Republican. I am a registered Republican because I wouldn't be able to vote in the primary elections if I were registered as an independent, as I'd like to be. I disagree with the GOP almost as much as I disagree with the Democrats. I detest partisan politics with every fiber of my being and my posts in this thread have much less to do with praising George W. Bush than they do with pointing out the rabid fanaticism of Sooty's posts. He portrays Obama as nearly perfect while painting Bush as a mentally ill, warmongering imbecile. His portrayal of both men is far from the mark and screams "partisan politics" and is a real example of "rewrit(ing) reality to suit his own agenda."

I'm all about truth, so when I remind people that Bill Clinton bombed Iraq hundreds of times before George Bush did, it's not partisan politics -- it's the truth. Clinton bombed Afghanistan years before 9/11 and he also bombed Sudan. America's policy of extraordinary rendition was put in place by Bill Clinton -- that's right, Clinton snatched foreigners, too. President Obama has killed American citizens in Yemen with drone strikes. He's attacked Somalia and even attacked Libya under his own little war to dethrone a dictator. All of this is undeniably true, but some people insist on vilifying George W. Bush while letting Clinton and Obama off the hook. Nothing but rabidly partisan politics again.

I support the actions of Clinton, Bush and Obama that were undertaken to protect the people they serve. How does that make me "a rabidly partisan Republican"?
