Oops.. joined a few mths back but never came here to introduce myself. This is a great website, with brilliant updated comedy news. Enjoy checking it & reading the forum posts too.
Hi there
Good evening and welcome.
Hey I'm new too. Any reason to why you joined like wanting to write/do stand up or just a like for comedy

Hi, thanks for the welcomes
Not a comedy performer, just a fan of British Comedy (with a teeny bit of stuff from the US thrown in!).

Ah that's cool for me it's a mixture of a general love for stand up though I will admit my taste tends to sway towards British comedy. I also joined to try and find some gigs round where I live and some people to write with. I've just started doing stand up so I thought this site would be a good place to find out some helpful things

Wow, good for you, having a go at stand up. Hope it's a success! That's a hard job and I really admire people that are confident & quick enough to do it. My fav stand ups are Mack, Skinner & McIntyre. All 3 are at the top of their game(I think anyway)

I'm not a massive fan of McIntyre myself but that is because I just find him annoying for some reason though I do like Mack and Skinner. My favourite comedians are Rod Gilbert, Russell Howard and then my most favourite Ross Noble. Ross Noble is the king of improv I so wish I could improvise like him though sadly I cannot. I can improvise a little but I'm more material based.
And thanks well I was lucky with it really my uni has a comedy society which is amazingly helpful for people starting out as you have people to write with and they help organise gigs as well it's awesome.
Being able to improvise and think of a quick funny response is so clever. I'd end up thinking of a witty reply about a week later! I like stand up acts that strutt around the stage! That are quite loud but not too OTT, although I can see Michael McIntyre wouldn't appeal to everyone. There are some good comics out there that pop up on the usual panel/chat shows. Ross Noble is a bit too surreal for me tho!
I don't really know very much, but I'm guessing that you play student gigs to get experience, or don't comedy clubs have 'open mike' nights? You might work your way onto Mock the Week one day!
Welcome, Bubbles.

Our president organises gigs for us and everyone tells each other about gigs in the nearby area as well so it's pretty good. and lol it would be nice if I did end up on Mock the Week though it may not happen for a while . It would also be very surreal I would probably just sit there trying to dismantle the desk just to check it was all real.

Thanks Aaron
What you need James, is someone in the crowd to spot you who has connections!! You never know who might be out there watching
I would love if someone just spotted me sadly not sure they would at the moment. My material is good just need to get a better grip of my nerves. They tend to get to me and cause to speak a bit too fast. I just need to do some bigger gigs to be honest. I'm currently debating whether or not to go for a gig in Manchester after crimbo but the main issue is getting there well actually strike that I can get there fine just not back
Don't be too dispondent though, it's bound to take ages to perfect the skill of stand up. Can't remember if you already said how long you'd been having a go at it? Every time you get a heckle from the crowd, remember it for next time! I've seen the top comics repeat their own jokes now and again. But yeah, it doesn't really help matters if the good venues are tricky to get to!
I didn't and not long only over a month . I have a few prepared put downs already. For heckles being a welsh person in england is a blessing as it means I can guess pretty well what sort of heckles I will get . Also as my jokes come quick with little time inbetween people struggle to find time to heckle
