CANCELLED: London Comedy Writers' Festival

Got this email yesterday afternoon from organiser Chris Jones:

STOP PRESS - THERE WILL BE NO COMEDY FESTIVAL IN MARCH 2012

Following the resounding success of this years Festival, which left all of us here at TeamLSF slightly overwhelmed, one thing became glaringly obvious - that we really do have our work cut out for us to top the 2011 festival.

To that end we have elected to make some structural changes which will enable us to focus all our combined efforts on delivering the best possible festival in 2012. We will reveal more details in due course but for now the first change we'd like to announce is the integration of next years Comedy Writers' Festival into the LSF program in October 2012. To be clear, there will be NO Comedy Festival in March 2012.

We are committed to producing the next major evolution in the London Screenwriters' Festival in 2012 and what we have up our sleeves is going to take ALL of our energy!

All delegates who have already purchased tickets for the Comedy Writers' Festival will be offered a full refund or the opportunity to offset the money paid towards their ticket to LSF2012 (at the early bird discounted cost of £240.00). We will be contacting you all individually to discuss which option you would prefer.

Everyone here at Team LSF would like to thank you for joining us on this extraordinary journey. In two short years, The London Screenwriters' Festival has officially become the biggest screenwriting event in the world! 2011 will be a hard act to follow but, rest assured, you will not be disappointed! Plans are afoot...

It's a shame as I was looking forward to it and really can't afford the £250+ it'll cost to go to the full-on Screenwriters' Festival instead. I liked the whole comedy vibe last time and can only think it'll be diluted by being a screenwriter's one instead.

Dan

Oh Dan!

For £200 you can meet Sootyj down the pub. Where Sootyj will share his years of experience in writing comedy badly and how to get scripts rejected. As a bonus Sootyj himself will be the key note speaker, where Sootyj will tell you about the time he stood next to Mel Smith at a urinal and got arrested for gross indecency.

Book now and get the early bird discount of 50p and a souveneir Sootyj cup.
(a styrofoam cup with a crudely drawn penis on the side and the words "cokkzilla!")

Sure sounds like a bit of spin in that release.

Hey MarcP what do you say when you break wind?

At £250+ I'd certainly want more than my shoulders rubbed!

Thats a shame, last years was really good.

Yeh I got drunk and hooked up with this hot Welsh chick.

Kept going on about their animated turds sitcom.

The Poohmans?

They had no speakers announced, so obviously sold f**k all tickets if they're contacting people "individually". Given that you have to take a financial punt to book speakers, before you can really attract people to spend £250 on a ticket, they've decided to meld it into the scriptwriters festival. Basically they couldn't make the sums add up and didn't want to take the risk.

Agree it's a shame, I would have gone to a dedicated comedy one, but not a broad screenwriters festival.
