British Comedy Guide

A good writer never sleeps, or do they ?

I read somewhere that when you spend time thinking about comedy, your brain subconciously continues to think about it,after you stop.

I've been mulling the idea over about writing a sitcom and have been giving thoughts to settings ans potential gags. At 3am this morning, I woke up with an idea for a sketch in a bar that would be of use. I picked up the pad, that I keep by the side of the bed, to write it in ( I did pick up a photo album with pictures of the cat in first, but that was of little consequence. Or so I thought). I then wrote down the sketch, editing and adding to it as I went, even managing to come up with the final punchline.

Then I woke up.

I hadn't written down anything at all. However, I could recall the entire sketch and quickly typed it into my ipod. Very strange indeed.

Right. Back to sleep. More 'grafting' to do.

You keep pictures of your cat by your bedside?

I suppose that's as close as any pussy gets AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

(I sometimes dream jokes and sketches that, on awakening, are nowhere near as funny as they were in the dream itself)

I dreamed last night a comedian broke into my house and wrote a sketch in my cat photo album.

You owe me an imaginary cat photo album!

I think you owe the cat a fish supper if your sitcom makes it PB :)

Unfortunately, I don't have a cat photo album. That's just what I recall. I'll be using the sketch idea, but expect it to take a good 3 months before I can come up with anything credible for a sitcom episode.

Sooty - Lol

Awwwww, do you even have a cat in real life?

I dream ideas quite often. Half the time they are good and useable, but half the time after I've woken up properly I realise that rather than being genius, they were in fact complete and utter nonsense.

Ahem shadonbelle I hope you are unaware of what a "fish supper" is a euphemism for!

Maybe it's nonsense, however, I have solved technical work problems whilst asleep (not at work, in my own time). Either way I have a short sketch to shoehorn into mt project.

I woke up once, had breakfast, went to work and did what felt like a couple of hours of work before waking up for real and realising I'd dreamt the whole morning and had to repeat the cycle again in the real world.

Naturally I put in for overtime.

Dejavu I could have sworn I just saw that on Facebook
