It's obviously fairly unlikely if you're new to it and have no industry connections or profile that you'll hit the jackpot with your very first script, but you never know.
Getting industry connections is so easy though. They go to events and roadshows/festivals or you can track them down and call/meet them very easily. It's one of the worst myths that some people on here have - that it's who you know and that's by some sort of luck or club.
The fact is there are too many scripts to read and everyone is looking for two things: 1) a great script, 2) a writer they can work with. It doesn't matter how good your script is, if you can't work with the person then it probably won't get made. If you meet someone you get that issue out the way.
Of course great scripts do make it through, but why not help yourself?
Well sure, of course you can make contacts if you put the effort in.
Contacts are half the battle.
Having a decent usable script is the other half.
Bit like saying all you need to do to beat up a yeti is; one climb everest, two beat up that yeti.
