If someone hasn't been purposefully dishonest, but has wanted to present themselves in the best light and is then considering someone possibly being in their life and knowing their human foibles and insecurities, I'd be sympathetic to that.

Well, TB gave example of work being more interesting than it is. No-one wants to sound like a bored whinger when getting to know a potential partner, so if it's just something like that and he then said 'actually, it is a bit dull' I wouldn't think he was a mad liar.
Interesting subject, although I have no experience of online freindships and relationships as I already have three friends.
Yeah, if it was mentioned (i.e. 'tell me about your exciting job') I'd just say 'oh, well it really isn't as exciting as I made out'.

I just tend to think it's best to be honest straight away...and if people don't like it it's tough.
