I'm dreading the awkwardness. What if she's not the same person in real life? What if I'm not?

If 'she' is a forty year old tattoed truck driver with a beergut and a penis it could be awkward. If you are as well, then perhaps less so.

I worry that maybe I've said something in the past to her that maybe wasn't true just to sound more interesting. Nothing major and not to intentionally mislead. Not as in 'I'm single' when I'm married, etc, just stuff like how interesting my job was or stupid things like that.

If you know what I mean?

If you have, just laugh and look shamefaced and say 'sorry, I think I exagerrated a little to impress you'. If it's nothing major then she'll probably think it's sweet and admire your honesty

Is that admiring the honesty about the dishonesty?

I can't believe I wasted minutes writing you some help that you didn't even acknowledge.

I reckon you'll bungle it.

Sorry, dude. The talk of bum tricks freaked me out slightly. Not good.

If someone hasn't been purposefully dishonest, but has wanted to present themselves in the best light and is then considering someone possibly being in their life and knowing their human foibles and insecurities, I'd be sympathetic to that.

I think the post says that things were said that weren't true to impress. Then says it wasn't to mislead!
Isn't that the definition of 'to mislead'?

Well, TB gave example of work being more interesting than it is. No-one wants to sound like a bored whinger when getting to know a potential partner, so if it's just something like that and he then said 'actually, it is a bit dull' I wouldn't think he was a mad liar.

Interesting subject, although I have no experience of online freindships and relationships as I already have three friends.

Yeah, if it was mentioned (i.e. 'tell me about your exciting job') I'd just say 'oh, well it really isn't as exciting as I made out'.

I'm not suggesting he is. I wish him well.
I just tend to think it's best to be honest straight away...and if people don't like it it's tough.
Having said that a lot of people hate me.

What to do?

Lose those childish inhibitions by drinking copious amounts of booze before meeting her. And I mean heaps of booze, say, a six-pack of beer, a bottle of wine and half a bottle of whisky. Then, upon meeting her, declare your undying love and clearly explain your carnal desires. If she does not reciprocate, then you should go home and have a wank.

Why wait until you get home?

Sure, if the James Cotter Memorial Brothel is still having its December promotion, it might be worth stopping in there for some comic relief.

:D

:) Best not to lie, if I choose to reveal the real me, well hope you like me, if not I'm not bothered.

Do'nt get the point of 2 people lying? that's why I would never bother with the on-line dating crap.
