I don't have any debts, never liked them, credit cards store cards, I pay as I go very old fashioned , but some people live this way.

If they forced Cameron to have sex with a pig, then I'd pay attention. But not before.

I'm the same. I realise there are some people who are struggling to just to buy food, pay the rent and electricity and just survive. However I would like to know how many people are 'struggling' because they are trying pay off the brand new car, big plasma and what ever other creature comforts they've purchased.
So bloody true mate!

How unusual! Most people love debts...
Meaning, mortgages, debts on gas electric bills the everyday stuff, not greed and excess.

If you can't afford a TV or sofa on normal credit, or by just buying upfront.
Then Brighthouse and similar ganiffs will let you have one in your house. In exchange for about £20-£50 a month...forever.
Perversley it's easier to get a completely unaffordable TV, then it is to buy a fairly affordable one.
Not to mention families who get sky and a big telly. Because they can't afford scouts, youthclubs, cinema, meals out etc etc
So they might as well have a nice telly to watch whent they're in doors.
These problems go to the very heart of our society. Why is it everything in Argos or Comet comes with a convenient credit?
This sort of thing is corrupting.
Worthy comments Sooty!
I have several thousand pounds of debt, and got stuck in a dangerous credit cycle with pay day loans. All of the 'big' or 'expensive' items I own have always been presents. I made a few hundred quids worth of storecard related mistakes when I was a fiscally irresponsible 18 year old, which snowballed throughout my fiscally irresponsible early twenties. Even a comparatively small amount of debt is dangerous when the person who applies for it does t really understand what they're doing. It's part greed and part naivety, and part dangerous financial marketing.
Does everyone hear know about some excelent schemes that the government has sponsored over the years to help with unmanageable debt?
Part the reasons banks etc are such bullies is they actually have very little power. Even forcing you into bankruptcy recoups them very little, same with posession orders.
I has been training with the CAB!
There is an insane lack of education on debt, considering how big a part it is of a lot of peoples lives. I only just found out credit unions existed a couple of weeks ago.

The CAB are absolutely fantastic - can't praise them enough.
I am accidentely overdrawn £12 the bank sent letter saying, £5 per day charges plus interest Ghrrrr, have to sort crap out.
No wonder people are in debt with total rip-offs like this!

I'm fairly certain that you're in debt because you spent more money that you possessed.
Or had the bare faced cheek to want to go to university.
