Prime Minister - Will Hay??

Hi All!

No, not the Black Sheep of Whitehall (of 1942 = my birth year),

Around 1950 I remember a mono comedy, I think it was Will Hay who became prime minister?

With traffic problems increasing trialed solutions included, I think -

cars and pedestrians on alternate days

Cars on footpath, people on roads.

It's been stuck in my mind for years, but my cousin, more Hay-avid than I is not aware.

Any ideas please?

Are you sure you are not getting confused with Anthony Eden? The whole canal episode was particularly ludicrous...

He died in 1949 and I couldn't find any record of this in his biog.

Sounds more like Jacques Tati.

Seen most Will Hay films and this doesn't ring a bell. There was a Norman Wisdom film in which he played a couple of parts, one being the Prime Minister (I think). Can't remember what it was called though.

Probably not it anyway. I'll shut up.

Thanks Guys,
Suez was a fiasco, but not a comedy!
It was a 'filum', not a newsreel, the clip is clear in my mind, although such is Will's impact, I may have crossed wires with the internal PM's cabinet room (Will), with the external street scene, cars steering round letterboxes and lamposts etc!
Not Norman, 'Trouble in Store' was on Sky, staring my first love (at 11) Lana Morris - AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
Not 'Black Sheep of Whitehall'.
The search goes on...................

This sounds so obscure jimlad you should email Roy Hudd.

Thought this was a Black Mirror thread - Will he??

Sorry,

But the response was to the replies.

I had tried all Will Hay web searches and film lists IMBD etc since I had no recollection of the title.

So nobody recalls the film with the traffic problems - see above?

My search goes on.

Thanks

Not Norman, 'Trouble in Store'

I was thinking more of Press For Time were he also plays the PM. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfboS7KPO-8

Thanks, but not this one.

I guess the two scenes may have been from two different films, both mono.

But it was c60 years ago!

Sorry old chap, not ringing any of my Hay bells.

Ok, so we're now looking to identify a black & white British comedy film about a new Prime Minister having to deal with traffic issues. Might look like Will Hay or have similar screen presence. Hmmm...
