No, some of Steve's have been worse.

This is the most depressing thread ever.

It's a shame a thread designed to mourn someones passing has basically turned into 'what's the best why to kill yourself?' discussion and includes some decidedly off comments. But hey, that's the internet for you.

I find the one on Terry and June far worse.

Very sad news. And shocking news, on the surface, because people don't expect hugely successful and wealthy people to take their own lives. Really puts all the trappings of wealth and success into perspective! The other odd thing about this is that he held the record I think, for most consecutive premiership appearances and like Giggs he just went on and on playing at the highest level. So he was the model of physical and mental prowess.

I think it is more a case of people responding to a shocking and seemingly inexplicable act. Under the circumstances the thread was never going to be entirely a celebration of a life. Deeply sad though.

I'm not saying Speed suffered with depression....BUT:

Idiots often claim that depression is a sign of weakness. Considering Speed's physical strength and mental determination to get to the top, was he weak?

I'll never understand those who label sufferers of clinical depression as 'feeling sorry for themselves'.

Well, they know bugger all, don't they? I seem to remember Princess Anne sounding off about people needing counselling to cope with trauma - she was more or less saying they were weak idiots. Bloody alien!

..the suicide rate amongst young me in the UK..

Now people close to him are saying he *wasn't* depressed. Wishful thinking? Or can a person commit suicide without being depressed? This is confusing stuff.

Maybe it was an accident.

Someone from my school hung himself by accident. He enjoyed escapism and something went wrong. Very sad.

This is a typical get-out excuse, post-suicide. The vast majority of people walk around seeing nothing that is going on around them, especially if it's right underneath their noses. Just the way it is.

Indeed. How the hell did Robbie Savage not have the insight to see something was so seriously remiss?

How dare you imply footballers are foolish, crude and insensitive!
Just because we're a collection of overpaid, illeducated, thugs paid 6 figure sums to kick a piece rubber around a field (not to mention most of us foreign)
