No time for jokes, but a spokesman for the Wales Football Supporters Federation (being interviewed on Sky News) rather unfortunately described Speed as having a "never-say-die" attitude. Sporting cliches are a dangerous thing sometimes.
Sad news. The man was a footballing legend, even at his young age. RIP to one of the Toon greats.
Completely shocked. Poor, poor guy. So sad for his wife and kids.

In the 1 or 2 weeks I liked football when I was about 10, I supported Leeds for some inexplicable reason, so he's actually a footballer I've heard of!

Not particularly extreme in terms of methods of suicide, surely? Men (especially young/youngish) are far more likely to take their own life by violent methods than women. Too early to say things like "If any good comes out of this..." but it may highlight the huge, mostly under-reported/overlooked issue of suicide in young men in this country...
Well, the (slightly more) civilised way of doing it is surely pills. Hanging seems rather medieval, and a lot more disturbing for whoever the unfortunate person/wife/child is who happens to find him.

I suspect that if you're in a state of mind whereby you intend to terminate your very existence in this universe, that aesthetics is not one of your major concerns. Just a hunch, of course.

Discussions on the technique are unhelpful to say the least.
But yes the suicide rate amongst young me in the UK is disturbing to say the least.
