Going to see stand-up Page 28

I saw Ed Byrne on his Crowd Pleaser tour last week for the first time, in Truro. He did mostly new material, but some stuff I'd already seen him do on Mock the Week over the last couple of years, which was a bit of a let down in an otherwise excellent two-hour set.

Going to see Jon Richardson in Falmouth next month, which I'm really looking forward to; he is possibly my favourite comedian at the moment.

I'm going all the way to Cardiff in December to see Russell Howard as part of a friend's 21st birthday celebrations.

Living in Cornwall does not really give you much access to seeing comedy live, there's absolutely NO comedy clubs near me, and top name acts in the Hall for Cornwall or other similar venues are few and far between so I really need to travel to get to most gigs.

I need to move. >_<

Oh, awesome, I'm going to see Russell Howard in Cardiff as well. Looking forward to it!

I've only been going to stand-up gigs for a couple of months now and I've seen Paul Merton's Improv Chums, Ed Byrne, Milton Jones and Reginald D Hunter.

My favourite was either Paul or Milton, and Reginald was my least favourite. Probably because the warm-up lasted way too long and I was feeling really ill.

I absolutely love going to see stand-up, there's usually a great atmosphere.

If you hear anyone shouting out at the beginning "Break a leg..." it will be me. (Due to him breaking his hand on good news last week). Might not do it though, as the friend I'm going up with plan on doing a good amount of drinking that day and I might forget :D

Haha, aw, that'd be fantastic.

Saw Paul Sinha in Guildford on Wednesday at You Must Be Stoking. He is excellent. An exceptional performance, very accomplished. Had you laughing a lot, particularly good at those gags that you're not expecting from out of nowhere. Thoroughly recommended if you get the chance to see.

Also on were Joe Wells, who has some good stuff, though sometimes seems a little lost on what he's doing next, which loses a bit of momentum with the crowd. The jokes are very funny, so when he tightens that up, his stuff will be that bit sharper and more cohensive.

James Alderson was on too. Again good, solid stuff, nice rapport with the audience. Funny stuff also.

And finally, Radio Rejects' very own Dan March was on. He's very good with the audience and comes across very happy in front of a crowd, thus immediately warming the crowd to him. His comedy is more experience-based narrative, which is a nice change from the other guys that were on and is funny. Needs a few more gags on the journey to the pay-offs, but that will come with time.

Great night though; all four very entertaining. Oh, and compare Paul Kerensa was good, as usual. (Sorry about the spoon/toilet brush mix-up, if you're reading...)

I went to see Chris Addison in a little venue just over a week ago. It was his final warm-up show running in new material for the tour and it was a really good night.

As he said himself, he was being his own support act, so we were treated to 45 minutes of improv and audience interaction followed by the hour long show. It was really good to see him adapting his material for the audience and providing a running commentary on breaking news events (it was the night that Berlusconi resigned).

I'd be interested to see how this show has changed by the end of his current run, but as it was it made my face ache with laughter anyway.

I'm going to see him soon. Looking forward to it.

Trying to organise a trip to Manchester to 'Comedy Store', seen a good offer on 'Groupon'.

If any groups are interested in going to Highlight in Camden, send me a pm and I will try and get you a good deal..

Off to see Ross Noble tomorrow night. Really looking foward to it. It should be interesting at least.

Saw Robin Ince's Happiness Through Science show recently. I wasn't expecting much as I find Ince a bit hit and miss, but I was so impressed. It was probably the best night of stand-up I've experienced, and I'd really recommend it if you have a chance.

I missed it when he came to Glasgow. I'm pretty sure it has already been recorded for DVD through Go Faster Stripe though.

I've booked a day at the Edinburgh Fringe. I've got tickets for Simon Munnery, Tim Key, Hannibal Buress, Rick Shapiro and Kumail Nanjiani.

If I manage a second day in the run, I'd like to see Josie Long, Paul Foot and Richard Herring.

Last night myself and David 'David Bussell' Bussell went to see American stand up Todd Barry. He was brilliant, think he's still around for a day or two at the Soho Theatre if anyone fancies checking him out.

Barry or Bussell?

I loved his set last year. He repeats a lot of the jokes from his older CDs though.
