What's she thinking?

(she's some Sheila from one of our former colonies btw)

Julia Gillard the Prime Minister Of Australia. She might be thinking David Camron looks tasty, she gave Barak Obama a similar look when he visited this week. Or perhaps she wants to steal his job, she's good at that. Or maybe she was thinking of what else she could say that would convince him it is still in fact 1980.

She could have also be thinking "If I were a man no one would say I'm doing a bad job."

Much the same as Silvio is thinking about this South American lovely:

EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration

EU officials concluded that, following a three-year investigation, there was no evidence to prove the previously undisputed fact. Producers of bottled water are now forbidden by law from making the claim and will face a two-year jail sentence if they defy the edict, which comes into force in the UK next month.

"The euro is burning, the EU is falling apart and yet here they are: highly-paid, highly-pensioned officials worrying about the obvious qualities of water and trying to deny us the right to say what is patently true. If ever there were an episode which demonstrates the folly of the great European project then this is it."

Meanwhile in the land of free...

Of course some would say the Euro water law is an issolated example of a basically good and heroic ideal. e,g, that companies that sell " diet water," "biscuits that make you brainy" must prove their claims. And taking on the mineral water companies who enviroment trashing crooks, who encourage us to drink harmful amounts of water (over 2 lites in a temparate enviroment).

Whilst the US one is yet another example of massively rich corporations rewriting law and science to make them more money. And turning the rather good ideal of cheap healthy meals for children into yet another way of peddling shit.

Water hydrates. That's the end of the story.

My stance is simple: I hate government interference in my life. Their authority should stop at making sure that the food supply is safe to eat. I don't want them coercing/taxing/legislating me out of enjoying a bowl of ice cream or a dash of salt on my fries.

That's perhaps a more complex and nuanced wish then you realise.

It shouldn't be. If it is, it's a sign that the government is bloated, overbearing and ineffective.

Since 1862!

Thing is the alternative to the government is the corprotacracy. Who are and always have been worse.

Food corporations slipping palm oil, modofied corn syrup and a 100 hundred other nasties into our food for years. Why do you think McDonalds et al pay so much for lawyers?

If you have read Fast Food Nation that is the least of the horrors of the American diet. It is odd that a country that prides itself on individualism should be such uncritical consumers of the pap put in front of them.

I also read Fat Nation, scary shit.

The EU seems to be trying to do the right thing. Water companies are actually managing to encourage unhealthy water drinking.

That's some bloody achievment.

American-style eating has been blamed for diet being the biggest killer worldwide, ahead of infectious disease now.

You pay taxes to get services, it's kinda how things work.

One of those services is having a "food police" who keep an eye on food safety. The alternative is not just risk to your own health, but the overall cost of diabetes, heart disease etc to the society you live in.

Little f**king bastards!

How did a one and three year old find it, get it open, and make that much mess in the time it takes to go to the loo? And how did they manage to get it as high and as firmly on the pictures? Can you get insurance money for a flour incident?

Wanker, wanker, wanker !

Five years? Put a nought on the end of it more like !

What is it with these people?

Look at his picture. Is he an inbreed, throwback or something ? Because he doesn't seem to be of the same race as me !
