Cheers Bill. I'm not sure what happened to the SSD? I'll investigate further later. Still, how do you explain the fact that even after I set it to no paging file, I still receive the error?

I dunno, that's why you will need to Google elsewhere.

On Win 3.1 paging was set on a drive by drive basis so maybe you haven't zeroed it on all drives.

Does anyone know if I've done something to my computer that is making YouTube and iPlayer vids run behind the sound? Sometimes if I pause it, it catches up, and sometimes it doesn't. It is ridiculous how easily disorientated I become :(

Probably just congestion on the Internet.

But make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flashplayer.

My digital TV set does that sometimes on a bad reception day.

Cheers Bill, stopped the Adobe download the other day because the mere suggestion of Google chrome irritated me, but have unchecked GC and downloaded now so hopefully will sort it :)

Chrome is the bee's knees.

I keep trying Chrome but I always go back to Firefox.

Firefox has grown bloated and is a resource hog. Chrome is fast and lean. The built-in syncing and automatic/invisible upgrades were all that I needed to convince me to switch.

But feeling like you're being forced to download something when you're trying to access something else is not. I'm not a Google-hater but sly attempts by a company to dominate the internet and/or my computer make me fume.

Yeah, it's become bloated but you can tweak it till your hearts content.

Your anger is misplaced. You should be fuming at Adobe, not Google, for they are the ones who are bundling their software with Chrome (in exchange for a fat check from Google.)

The same goes for Chrome, no?

*shrugs*

I'm typing this in Chrome. Um, I'm not sure why but it took about 20 seconds to load the Google home page. Every other page I visit I'm greeted with a blank page that hangs for a few seconds, comparing that to my Firefox which loads pages (or appears to be) instantaneously. I suppose it will speed up the more I use it but I prefer to keep private browsing on (not for any naughty reasons) I just hate the idea of all that unnecessary cache and history storing memory waste.

Is there a way to speed it up? What's making it hang, is it checking something in the background?

I've never had any speed issues with Chrome. It's usually one of the fastest browsers in all of the speed tests I've read about.

I won't argue that. But it still doesn't explain the uncomfortable moments of loading. I'm on a Mac, there's no third party anti-virus/firewall. I have no other programs running. So why the frick does it do it? It's not a huge deal, but when I'm used to instant loading times, it becomes magnified.

I'm using a Mac as well and Chrome seems much faster and more responsive than Firefox. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.

We should both be using Safari, I suppose.
