Poker games in sitcoms

Watched some Kiss Me Kate last night. There was an episode with poker game. Is the poker game quite a common episode idea for sitcoms?

I remember the poker game episode in OFAH where Del almost lost everything to Boyce. I remember poker games in The Odd Couple.

No, it's not.

What a weirdly specific thread!

There's an episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Hal loses a bunch of money to his black neighbour and friends and becomes convinced they're ganging up on him. Oh, and I seem to remember a poker game in the background of a conversation about politics in an episode of Louie. Other than that I'm out.

I think Dan used to have a regular game in Roseanne, and there's an (unusually good) episode of Friends revolving around poker.

Larry David puts his foot in it at the poker table-

Steptoe & Son has a good poker episode
I remember it because it showed Albert comes to Harold's rescue for a change.

Yup, this thread made me immediately think of Roseanne.

Fairly sure there is an episode of Black Books with a poker game. Bernard started to play but lost his money and then Manny and Fran went to win it back pretending to be American tourists.

There are many episodes of Bilko involving poker.

I imagine Hogan's Heroes might have its fair share too.

Wasn't there an episode of "Queer as folk" where three queens were beaten by a straight?

Hilarity ensues. Unfortunately for the purposes of the joke, Queer as Folk wasn't a sitcom.

Taxi

Loui loses all his money to his brother

The only problem I have with poker in comedy (and indeed in all TV programmes and films ever made for that matter) is that all of the actors never actually seem to play poker. They some crazy mixed-up Hollywood version of snap or canasta, who knows what it is but it isn't poker.

People on film seem to be just about the only people who ever get dealt complete fully-formed hands from the beginning. Of course, after that, they can then just laze about and bet ludicrous amounts until one of them wins.

You only have to stay up until 5am on Channel 4 watching all those endless card shows to know that you are dealt one card after each round of betting and that the banker/dealer is the one whose cards decides what the betting is. Show me a comedy where someone isn't dealt a royal flush straight off, for whatever amusing comedy pay off, and I'll show you a cow that can play the ukulele.
