Circalit: Get Your Comedy Film Made...

A new competition appeared today on Circalit that will definitely generate some interest from this board's readers...

We're looking for hilarious, poignant and original pieces of comedy between 3-5 minutes in length, in a similar style (but in no way related to) Jason's previous pieces. Jason wants a writer he can work with - someone who presents great ideas but who will be part of an organic process of growth and development.

So if you love to write comedy, and love the idea of your work making it onto the silver screen then don't even think twice about hesitating - get writing!

Is anyone from BCG entering this competition...?

I'll hopefully write something for it within the next 5 weeks, just need an idea. Good\Friendly site, and good opportunity.

I've got two up for this competition: "There's No Good Porn Left on the Internet" and "Father's Day". The former seems to be doing okay, but I think the latter is the one that would make the better film.

Edit: Should point out that they have a peer review system, which is why I know how my scripts are doing.

sounds like a good contest, but not sure I'm keen on the review system.

For the last comp. the peer reviews were not a deciding factor in the competition. And just in general I found the majority of the 15 or so reviews I received extremely in depth and helpful. And not a single troll, although perhaps I got lucky.

so the reviews don't decide the winners?

Reviews don't decide the winners, but quite often in their comps the shortlist is, say, the 10 "top ranked" scripts.

I've been a member of Circalit for a while and I've yet to see the 'peer review' system have any effect or influence on any winning script/novel...

Huh? The shortlist in this competition is decided by peer votes. If you don't get on the shortlist, you can't win. Simples.

The shortlist for the previous 'Get your short made' competition was not decided in this way. Many of the scripts on that shortlist had no reviews or feedback at all.

Maybe the rules have changed, or maybe it's just an unclear statement on the rules page. Either way it's free so worth a shot.

I've never entered a contest that is judged in this way. I'm a bit stand offish as I think it's open to abuse. People who know each other online could make give each other high marks etc. Is it worth entering do you think?

It's free so if you have something ready, go for it.

Thanks to the original poster.

I've entered a script, Urban Fox. The reviews I've received so far all seem very fair and mostly complementary.

Hopefully I won't be disqualified for submitting a 7 page script...
