Bill, my dad would choke on his porridge reading your recipe, he says salt is the only seasoning porridge needs.

We went to a South African restaurant this week. The decor was amazing, the food not so much. I grew up in SA so was expecting Boerewors and Biltong, but they weren't on the menu :(

The Scottish in particular are very precious about their Porridge. I believe there is even a World Championship cook off for the Golden Spurtal (Maybe incorrect spelling).

What is a traditional South African dish? I really have had no experience of this cuisine.

I can't stomach porridge - the slimy texture makes me gag.

But I do eat oatcakes.

I agreed to make peanut brittle for Dannyjb1 to stop him whining. You would think a diabetic would want to stay away from my cooking and baking.

nb don't you and Dannyjb live hundreds of miles apart?

You haven't married him have you?

I send it by mail.

And I could never marry Danny. The bloodshed would be too much on both sides.

I hope that's the peanut brittle

    Recipe for gluten-free bread.

(1)Buy all the ingredients and make it according to the instructions. Amazingly, it's a lot like real bread, but really heavy.
(2)Wonder if it needs so much oil in the recipe.
(3)Make it again without oil or eggs.
(4)It's less like bread now but great for crostini.
(5) Cull the basil plant to make pesto for the crostini. Nice.

This thread could be a recipe for disaster..

Yes.. it's got all the ingredients.

I bought some cheddar with spring onions in last night. I think that could make a good cheese on toast.

I think you'll need some bread as well..

Yes, I always found SA cuisine to be rather boering..

Any one of those puns should be an instant ban imo. Oh, and stop trolling my thread you 'bastardo' who the hell do you think you are? Sooty!

Buy Genius bread instead! Or the Livwell brand. Sadly Genius bread is not available in Australia. I can now buy Livwell bread rolls and pitta in one of our major supermarkets though. Exciting because not only does it taste great but I can now buy bread rolls at the supermarket!

I searched for a baking thread, which I was sure existed, but apparently not! So I am going to post about it here. Today I need to bake a ginger cake for my mum's work who are having a charity bike ride. Then I am probably going to bake lebkuchen for Elliot who hand in his dissertation tomorrow, and has been bugging me to make them for ages.

As a side note, I was quite pleased that searching "baking" brings up my birthday thread!

MMM ginger cake. I used to sometimes make ginger slice with a lemon icing, not sure if I have the recipe anymore. I should start proper cooking again instead of adding eggs to a packet mix.

I don't have anyone to cook for so it's hard to be motivated.

I love ginger cake. Good luck to Elliot for his handing in day!

I shall now Google lebkuchen.

Ohhh them! We have them at Christmas, and I never really know what they're called. Yum.
The gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel was made out of them. FACT.
Probably.
