One of my colleagues got mugged outside our office this morning. F**king ridiculous that we can't just walk around in broad daylight and not have our phones stolen and get hit in the face.

It is, and quite, quite disgusting. I think being fed it constantly as a child is why I don't like cheese in hot meals these days.

I guess it's really just a grilled cheese sandwich minus a slice of bread.

It's bloody delicious.

That sucks. I remember being confused when I saw signs warning of phone theft at UK stations. Most people in the States get free phones with their contracts and don't even worry about them being stolen. The rest of the world seems to use pay-as-you-go plans but I doubt most Americans have ever replaced a SIM card or even know that they exist.

Ooh, strange. I never thought of Pay as you Go as a UK thing!

Most people in the uk get free phones on contract too. Only wierdos pay actual money for a handset.

They cost a butt load to replace though if you haven't got insurance.

I think you can buy cheap phones with refillable minutes but I think they're mainly used by drug dealers and bad guys. They're only a few bucks so it's probably not worth the risk of stealing phones from people.

Most people here have a multi-year contract with one of the big providers and have either hundreds of minutes per month or, increasingly, unlimited minutes. I haven't bothered switching to an unlimited plan because it costs more and most of my friends and family are on AT&T and calls to/from them are free.

I hate contracts. Plus I use my phone weirdly so Pay as you Go works out massively cheaper for me than any contract would.

Point in case.

What happens to those sub prime people over there that buggered up the worlds economy. Bad credit folks don't get contracts over here.

F**king scum. Did they report it?

Yep, the police drove round with her to see if they could spot the kids, but didn't.

Luckily she's insured, but her face is a nice bruise and she's very shaken up.

Like I said, drug dealers and criminals. ;)

I'm always amazed that mugging is so common. How many people can there possibly be who reckon it's okay to do such a horrible and scary thing?

What's the strongest form of personal protection you're legally allowed to carry over there?
