Pro wrestling and real life

I try to bring pro wrestling into my "real" life. Life is a "snooze" if you don't "pump it up". I try to imagine I'm a pro wrestler as I go through life. I always preferred the "bad" guys. They knew how to create excitement. Alot of times I wish I could cut myself on the forehead with a razor blade as I stand in line at some convenience store. It would be GREAT to have the blood flow as I bought my newspaper. It would also be fun to hit my boss with a "foreign object ie..a pencil, brassknuks,a toy robot..." the next time he hassles me. One can always dream :S

The Muppets were on wrestling the other night. I don't know what's more "real life" than that.

I can't watch wrestling anymore. I wish I saw that. I LOVED it when it was"KayFabed=when the wrestlers "lived" the role ie Good guys and bad guys NEVER were seen together in public" Now EVERYBODY knows the results before the match starts. In Philly we had ECW wrestling. IT was fantastic. The guys drank with us in the parking lot and KILLED each other in the ring. The fans brought "weapons ie..Toy robots, cheese graters,Stop-signs: for the wrestlers to "use" on each other. Ahh the memories!

I never saw much of ECW. It was pretty much dead by the time I heard about it. I saw a few episodes towards the end. I used to have a tape from one of their PPVs. An excellent match with RVD v Jerry Lynn. It was one of the best I've ever seen.

Lee is was GREAT fun. Blood+comedy. That RVD vLynn match was superb. Man they worked. I saw Sabu v Terry Funk in a barbed wire match. It was so SICK! It was like seeing a Goya painting come to life.

I'm not the biggest fan of hardcore. The best ones to me are the feuds that build up for a while and end with an all out fight.

Did you ever see Kurt Angle v Shane MacMahon in a street fight? I loved that one. He kept trying to belly-2-belly him through the glass but it would budge. Mental.

Yeah, I prefer the more technical match though. Kurt V Benoit were dream matches. Shame Benoit went mental and slaughtered his family. The c**t.

I hear you. Ring psychology. The AnglevShane match was really good. Shane is tough. Benoit? I think concussions got to him? I loved the Guerrero v Malenko matches. I'm 45 ! I grew up with WWF! Superstar Graham v Bruno. Ernie Ladd. Bob Backlund. These guys told a story in the ring.

I grew up with Hulk Hogan Errr (I hate him). I stopped watching it for YEARS. Then I caught the end of the Attitude Era from about 1999 onwards. It's never been any good since before 2002. I still watch it occasionally though.

I am really confused, do you guys know it is fake or not? (some people dont)

I think anyone over the age of 10 knows it's fake.

How would we know if your confusion is fake or not?

You could ask? :P

So you both enjoy it like you enjoy a movie, eg, you know its not real, but who cares its just entertainment?

Exactly!

Some wrestlers are more talented than others, as are some actors more talented than other actors. Which means it can genuinely make it feel like real competition. It's not the hardest "acting" job in the world but if you're not very good at it, you get found out quite quickly and don't become popular, get television time or the main event spots and title belts. Do you see what I mean?

The same thing happens is real sports. Someone like Mike Tyson would probably be a guarantee big money draw, so they'll stick him in the main event (he may not be the best but he's the draw). Mike Tyson is just an example as I don't know much about boxing Pleased

I know it is fake. I love it as theatre. The pleading and bleeding. Over the top promos. In the US ALL sports are becoming HYPE! I'd rather watch two guys staging good vs evil ,then American football. ECW was VERY violent. Those guys really hurt each other. We would drink with the guys after the matches and they had REAL stitches in their heads! REALLY GOOD SHOW!

This thread reminded me that there was another about wrestling a while ago: https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/2813/
There are a few posts from me about when my Dad used to take me to watch.
He has passed away since then.
