The one main nice thing about Wetherspoon pubs (apart from the real ale) is that the do NOT play music, so you can actually hear your companions & have sensible conversations.

Agree in general, but that place is so huge I find the ambience spooky.

Heh, Heh a few years ago I silenced all the conversations in that huge pub area.
I was talking about Judo training that I had done at University way back and how they had taught us "The Shout", which is used to disconcert your opponent.
I said I could still do it and knowing that it has to be unexpected, waited a short while and then I did a really loud HAIII ! using stomach muscles to force the sound through my larynx.
The sound reverberated through that huge high room and was loud everywhere & all the people stopped talking for a brief moment.
