As for Oregon and the lecturer, simply wouldn't happen, thus it loses all its possible comedy. That hot Chinese student, Ruth, may well have an affair with a lecturer, because her character is very free and worldy. But not the Oregon character.
Disagree. The tutor would sense the vulnerability of Oregon and see that he could prey on her quite easily.
Also the Chinese looking girl isn't in that tutor's class...

Why wouldn't it happen? It could. It's certainly within the realms of possibilty. It's even something that's been done before.
I don't watch much telly any more, this is one of the few programmes I actually tune in for. I like it but it could be so much better. I was expecting a cross between Skins' 1st series (guilty pleasure) and The Inbetweeners. I think with comedy dramas it's hard to get the blend right, and there's too much nothingness for me - periods that aren't really comedy or drama. We're 4 episodes in, and I still haven't worked out the characters yet. I don't know who I like and who I don't like. It's a good watch, but also frustrating because it could be brilliant but, to be honest, it's distinctly average IMO.

You could say it loses its sense of reality, but comedy doesn't particularly have to be real.
I agree, comedy doesn't have to be 'realistic'. But this isn't meant to be surreal comedy, so therefore it has to keep at least a toe in the pool of realism. Yes, the lecturer may pray on Oregan's innocence, but then if he were to do that, he'd be sleeping with a lot of freshers.
Well maybe he just particularly fancied her/she came along when he was feeling extra frustrated with his life/she reminds him of his one true love from his younger days! Who knows. She's not exactly hideous is she?
Oregon has a certain element of innocence about her, is reasonably attractive, is fairly clever, appears to share the lecturer's interests, and certainly holds him in a position of esteem, if not minor idolatry. Why would he not be interested in her, given the relationship with his wife? And indeed, given her innocence and how she sees him, why would she not be interested in what is entirely plausibly the first man to pay her any serious interest? It mightn't be likely in the real world, but it's certainly believable with what they've set up about the characters in this one.
Anyway. A second series has been commissioned.

Basically sour old academic who failed at life over awes naieve but nubile students.
Of all the things that criticise, that would seem one area they got right on the nail.
I have to agree with Aaron here - you can gripe about how true to the real world it is/isn't, but the fact is, it fits in very well with the internal logic of the show, and the way that particular character has been set up.
It's the same principal that is true with many other genres - in a sci-fi, you set up the technology that is/isn't avaliable, and then you can't really break those rules. In a horror film, you set up exactly what the zombies can/can't do and then watch the characters work out how to survive around that.
Howard's ginger friend looks exactly like that Mark Gatiss character in League of Gents who made his own Knight Rider car.
Well, it really is car crash TV. After only 6 episodes we are meant to deal with the loss of a horse and someone's dad. Err, not the greatest subjects for comedy, and they really didn't sit well with the whole confused mess. I thought.

Err, I don't see why not. You are probably mistaking a comedy show for a feel good show-some make you feel good, some don't. Anyway since no one's quite sure if the show's coming back, shouldn't the characters be developed as much as poss?
