I believe we have some armed response units; basically the arms are kept locked in a high-speed car ready for immediate use, but as to how they sort out the scheduling of the men, I don't know.

I don't think that many of our cops are qualified to use firearms, they volunteer for that and have specific training courses.

Armed crime levels in the UK are quite low.

Getting a shooter is quite hard and as they carry a 5 year prison sentence, most crims leave them with girlfriends who they then text to ask them to bring to them.

The police seem quite profficent at dealing with people keeping such things at home.

Hence why the Milenium dome raiders were armed with squeezy bottles of amonia.

The overall level of none gun violent crime is quite high though...

But what if Mr. Badguy has a machete or baseball bat or other deadly weapon. I'd be nervous if my police protectors weren't as well-armed as my assailant.

There was a rather good show on BBC a while ago where they brought police from around the world to learn UK police techniques.

The Australian guy was amazed at how UK coppers all wore stab proof vests.

Basically saying if anyone looked like they were going to stab him he'd shoot them. Seemed to make sense at the time.

Lots of people in the UK wear them.

We're stabbing mad over here.

Frankly the murder rate would drop if we could learn to make sandwiches with guns.
