BBC Three opportunity for a sitcom writer.... Page 10

So who's this Mandy bird then...?

Is she one of the drag queen chavs or the Butlins chalet maid with a part time job as gay escort...?

Phill: I'm just so lost now I don't know who I can trust.

Not me. I'm completely untrustworthy.

Hi all,

I just joined the forum....I actually found the site trying to authenticate this advert.

Anyways, from what I have seen:

This advert has appeared on a few sites. The one I saw it on was 'media match' but you had to sign up to get the detail, so I Googled the first line and managed to find it was eclipse TV. So yes, I've seen it advertised on more than just one site, but not many, and no major players.

I've Googled 'eclipse TV' and 'eclipse talent'. I couldn't find anything solid, nothing in the uk anyway. I also Googled the email address and didn't find anything...and you'd expect to find something for it if they were involved in production? And for that matter, would also have their own address rather than 'aol'.

So yes, I can't decide if this is real or a scam. Although, if it is a scam, I can't see why it would be anything malicious. What I'm thinking is that this is a wannabe agency starting up and is selling this as a BBC 3 gig to try and get work on their books? It's that or they're collecting scripts to sell as their own LOL

Sorry I couldn't add anything more...but I'd be interested to know if anyone else gets anymore info on it...I've emailed them for more info, but I'm not holding my breath.

Trust no one.

Anyway who thinks courses are a good idea?

Excelent I was just thinking one run by a Henry VIII impersonator and written by a comedic genius would be astounding.

Can I just say that although I reposted the ad on my blog, I'm not connected with the company or endorsing them in anyway. I just thought it sounds interesting and is listed as a paid job - it might be (probably is) a load of balls and I definitely wouldn't write anything new for it; but if you've got something similar or something you can adapt (like a completed entry for the Last Laugh competition a few years back?) then It might be worth a shot.

I've met a lot of time wasters on Mandy.com, but I've also met a start up company who've gone on to hire me for four features and a TV show - you just can't tell. As long as there's no money involved and you're not working for anyone else ... might be worth a gamble.

Might not, mind.

Hi Phill, thanks for posting that. As you reprinted it with permission from Andrew Newman, could you let us know how you know him/got in touch, as he doesn't seem to be replying to other writers emails

I don't know him, I just emailed and asked permission to repost (dont like to just assume people are okay with it, there might be a reason why it's only posted there).

Andrew responded by email the same day. It's odd he hasn't responded to other queries ... but there could be a number of genuine reasons.

Ah, okay- thanks :)

So, this Andrew Newman guy responds quickly to emails from people who wish to spread the word, but doesn't respond to emails requesting more information. I'm almost tempted to send something just to see what happens. Or hold on, I could let someone else do the dirty work...

Chappers, have you sent in anything yet?

I emailed yesterday and haven't had anything yet...but that's not long yet. I'll post if I get anything!

Nope. Been too lazy!

Peter Kay went on a course - Salford - passed - still waiting for his certificate.

Course/no course - who cares?

That page now reads...

"Sorry, an error has occurred.

This job posting has been removed from display.
This is usually because it has received enough applications."

Um, maybe it was fake then, taken down and that's their standard message?

This is the reply I received from eclipsetalent, make of it what you will...

Dear all at the British Comedy Guide,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but we have been really busy over the last few days. We have read the thread with great interest and appalled by some of the comments, Jack Jacob wrote that in all the years he's been at the BBC he'd never heard of a 'Bind Commission' obviosly never heard how the TV series Benidorm was created then. One user said the advert was full of spelling mistakes but we only found one. Also Andrew Newman is not the same Andrew Newman (Channel 4). We are a new company in the north of england (Salford Quays) and have been working with the BBC for the last three months. We are looking to develop ideas with new writers for the BBC THREE pilot scheme due to start in January. We recieved a lot of scripts but unfortunatly the offer no longer stands as we have found our writer. I would also suggest to some of the the users on the British Comedy Guide to stop wasting their time in the comedy industry and get a job because some of the posts I read were absolute piss and instead of writing a script some of them should wipe a dogs arse on 30 sheets of A4 as it would be a more entertaining piece of art.

Thanks for your time, (This is not a personal message to yourself but for the British Comedy Guide forum)
