James Cary & Dave Cohen: Comedy Writing Courses Page 3

I agree with what Dan said - it was most impressive how the two of them so quickly saw the merits and potential problems of a character thrown at them.

It was another very good day, if anything even better than the first one. Definitely some very good stuff in there which has given me a lot to think about when it comes to writing a sitcom script. I'll have a think and another run at my sitcom.

A couple of very tiny niggles:

The day was too short! It was a lot of fun and very useful and interesting so it was a shame it had to end really.

I would have liked to try the brainstorming thing about characters or plot ideas as a whole group as well as in pairs/threes. But then I suppose there wasn't time.

I was left with one concern - the techniques and methods they taught were very good - so good in fact that I'm now worried that my idea for a sitcom (if I follow their rules as striclty as possible) might end up so well structured and tight that it will far exceed any talent I have for actually writing the thing.

Ha! Well hopefully as my own example proved, I have a great talent for not following my own instincts (prefer that word to 'rules'), and for producing a sitcom that gets rejected!

Thanks again for your kind words. James and I really enjoyed working together and we plan to do some more dates in the autumn. Will take all your points on board.

James and I are doing another couple of dates:

I'm really interested in the Radio course but is there any chance you would run it on a weekend in the near future?

OK, I'm going. Anyone else?
