BBC Three opportunity for a sitcom writer.... Page 3

While you lot have been arguing I've started writing my sitcom about two Drag Queens. I say writing a sitcom, I've spent half an hour reading Drag Queen names to find how many great ones have already been done. I'm copyrighting Shawna Titsov - remember where you heard it first.

Seeing as you won't get past rule 1, there's no need to worry about rules 2 and 3.

Good luck with your writing!

Whey Hey, The Comedy Yoda seems to be getting a lil' personal.

That a boy Dec!

ps - For the record; rule one of writing comedy is not "How to work with people" That is utter, utter nonsense. That's maybe rule one of sales, but not writing. Rule one is 'have an idea you wish to communicate' so stfu with your preaching, you come across as an bandwagon-hopping, opportunistic salesman, not an 'artist'. Clearly.

People like you with their hollow pledges and phoney niceities are everything that is wrong with 'writers as artists' Vs 'writers as potential marks and products for exploitation and extortion'

That's what I honestly think. I don't expect you to agree. Everything in it's right place etc

It was an exchange that I wish had took place by pm and not public.

All I read on other threads was that one person ran a course, a person paid his money and attended, then entered a competition ran by the course-organiser's former business colleague and then won. And then provided a testimonial for the course, saying he won because the course improved his knowledge of writing a sitcom.

This, I felt personally, was a bit suspicious. As is the general unfairness of the voting system.

Then, in the face of various glib dismissals, I went onto to say I felt ALL courses were hollow and charged for content (education) that can be picked up for free anywhere.

At no point do I say Declan, Simon and Kevin are doing anything illegal or accuse them or doing anything against any legal practise.

It was a 'discussion' on the nature of course salesmen and their oversell tactics and this wasn't the correct place/forum to do it, and so I was wrong. I was wrong saying this fellow Kevin ran a course.

Even though it's a day too late. I am really sorry for getting on anyone's nerves.

Good luck to Declan and his future How To... courses.
I should have responded to his course post and not hijacked a the Trials competition thread. I thought the people in charge were all connected with eachother. I thought wrong.

It appears you wrote this when you were sober. Sober up, Jack, you'll make a much nicer person.

That's it? Three 'sober up' jokes in a row? That's your comedy?
Ha, blimey, you really do hold "The Key" don't you?

So, basically, everyone who thinks you're ripping people off is a nasty drunk? And everyone who thinks YOU are the reason why they haven't yet sold any work is a sober, nice person?

Please... You answer questions the way a cult leader does.
"You're either with me or against me"

You have yet to answer one single point aimed at you and your courses. Classic nutter technique, evade all critiscm and make the 'dissenter' out to be a drunk or whatever. Your only recourse when I tell you, you are selling basic, easy to find knowledge, is to say "I'm not forcing anyone to sign up".

That's it. That's your entire defence. You claim everyone is happy to take part and yet the ONLY poster who replied sticking up for you was a 70 year old woman who paid her money to you and her script got nowhere and didn't even get selcted for your competition. When she posted in your defence you didn't even thank or acknowledge her presence.

Why not? Oh yeah, the cheque had cleared.

ps, I don't drink.

;) Not even water?... Laughing out loud love it!

Jack, we both want to improve things for writers, we just have different ways of going about things.

I'm never going to convince you that we have the same interests at heart.

If you want to continue this by PM, please do.

Don't attempt jokes if you haven't paid the going rate. Making jokes isn't free lady ;)

Ok yeah. I go on various forums and engage in various discussions and after-show meet ups where people exchange tips, knowledge and brainstorms for free. You do this, but for an overpriced fee. Fair enough, different ways. Let's leave it there.

I'm either right in thinking what people like you do is shady and questionable, or I'm wrong. Either way, there's far bigger and worse at it than you. You probably do mean well. It's not personal, it's what you represent.

Anyway, yeah, let's leave it there.

Can we have some more Flintstone BDSM pics, please?

(I always thought Betty's maiden name was Page....)

If anybody is worried, all you need to do is go to BBC Commissioning and look at the Beeb's list of suppliers.
If they've been given a blank commission, they'll be on that list.

Unable to find this, do you have a link?

While you've all been arguing with this forum's leading wind-up merchant, I have the plot of my drag queen episode - No F In Panto - shaping up nicely. Now features Ivana Strapon and Ophelia Balzac.

Have just run it past another indie and they think it's 'very strange'.

You can have Rusty Springbox for a percentage ;)

Um. Good question. It used to be on the Commissioning homepage, but now appears to have gone missing.

If this is not genuine, then it is somebody who is claiming to be something they're not. A person hoping to start up a production company, and who wants scripts to approach BBC3 with - which they have not yet done. I think it is a slightly strange way to go about things. Most production companies if they have had discussions with a broadcaster and been given the nod to develop an idea, would then use their contacts to head-hunt writing talent, not advertise for open submissions.

It may be genuine, and if it is, it's a great looking opportunity. If it's not, then it may be a lot of hard work which has little/no chance of actually going anywhere.

would be great if somebody could clarify the situation. As it is, I think it's a gamble.
