Newsjack - Series 5 Page 52

Yikes, I just realised who Justin Edwards is... my fav clown off Sorry I Got No Head. I had no idea he was connected with NJ. Great.

:P Feel really happy they answered all my questions! Soo helpful

Must submit my new idea!

That chat has inspired me to write at least 6 sketches instead of just 3. If that inspiration turns into work though remains to be seen

This is my miserable failure-to-make-it this week...

So, "Doctor Who?" is now a plot-building question, we found out at the end of the latest series.
Can we expect the last line of writer Steven Moffat's new Sherlock Holmes series to be "Doctor, What's On?"

do people send in their corrections, apps and intros in separate emails or just separate word docs in one email?

All in one Word doc.

This. I separate mine into sections - Headlines, Apps and Corrections - but even that is more for my own benefit when I'm working on jokes during the week (by week I, of course, mean 'Tuesday afternoon')to see what gaps I've got, although it hopefully helps make the document more reader-friendly for the team as well.

so do you adhere to any limit? When they said ideally they'd like 10-12 apps/coorections I thought that meant 10-12 each or is it in total do you think?

I do about a page. Rarely more than that.

I put APP:/CORRECTION:/JUSTIN: in the character name margin. (or the style ie. 'POSH RACIST:' in place of 'APP:')

It's in total. But not something I worry about (as I rarely get past 8 or 9 in the first place!), plus they also say there's not really a limit anyway.

I would also say invest more time writing apps than corrections, simply because they use a lot more of the former (think there were only two corrections used in last night's show, for example). That said several people have submitted corrections that have been reworked as apps, so there are no hard and fast rules - if they like a joke enough they'll find a way to use it, I guess.

I usually send between 5 and 10, all in one Word doc. I think it's worth having a good spread of stories covered, because a good App about one story might miss out if they have covered the story in a sketch, for example. And it's worth spending time getting them in the best format for your gag - some work better as corrections than apps and vice versa.

Well done Badge, Sootyj and everyone who got stuff on. I haven't sent anything for a few weeks due to a combination of work/sickness. I have listened to all the shows though and there is a definate shift I think towards a more whimsical interpretation of the news. In a word, it's a bit sillier.

I think we all learned one thing from today's Webchat.

They read my posts on the BCG. They don't read your posts, obviously, otherwise they would have mentioned them.

They only read mine.

Here we go again. Two sketches sent. Not sure if these are really my forte. Half a dozen one liners. A couple of which will be good enough for 'critique', later this week.

Newsjack away!

And Parkbench if they're not good enough for critique, how will they be good enough for the BBC?
