Myself, I have given up on the one-liners. They're just too easy, and too much competition for space.

I disagree with this quite strongly, and don't think it's good advice. Sorry Tim!

Write everything learn from the experience, do better next time, send leftovers to news revue

Don't get bitter

Done for another week. I'm still not convinced I gave it my 'best shot', but I know I gave it my best shot, so far. Two sketches, half a dozen one-liners, two jack apps and a 'welcome' gag. Next week, I'm going to just have a stab at writing the closing credits.

I went a bit crazy and wrote three 'Lessons' this week (and some one-liners).

This could be a stroke of genius in going for an untapped furrow or I may have to file them with my 'NewsDog' sketches.

I asked that in fridays web chat as I was sure I hadn't heard that story until Tuesday, and was interested if it was a lucky find by a writer, them trying to make the show more topical or them just needing more sketches...
... Turns out that indeed, Simon (the producer) had herd the story on tuesday morning, and so requested something on it as he felt it should be covered. I'm guessing from Gareth's blog post today, it was written by some commissioned writers who've got there via previous newsjack submissions, but could be wrong. It was a very good sketch though. (The mad men bit really caught me off guard).

Ah, I see and yes the Mad Men bit caught me too. Excellent.

As far as this week goes, I'm just about to re-read the few one-liners I sent in this morning. *sigh* So here ends that lovely little gap between thinking you've written something half-way decent and realising otherwise... Good luck, all.

Hate to say it but some good stories post 5pm so obviously the comms will get those.
I just hope they can do something with the game footage of the helicopter 'accidentally' put into a serious documentary.
Be back with the rejects on thursday...

5 one liners for me - no sketches. I was also disheartened by episode two and feel your pain.

By the way, has no one seen that advert for giving up smoking which has all the smokers blowing those kids' party blower kazoo type things?

I have.

I was also disheartened by episode two...

Interesting.

I haven't listened yet but somebody whose opinion I trust said it was 'utter rubbish'

Was that harsh?

I thought it was weaker that show 1, with some ideas so stale they shouldn't have been let out to play. Again.

I disagree. I thought episode 2 was better than 1 - that "storm in a d cup" made me groan and think why did they put such an old joke on but a lot of good stuff too

Well, there you go...

Interesting.

I get the feeling that satirising real news is a waste of time. NewsJack is really the 'and finally' section* stretched out to fill the entire show.

Nothing wrong with that, but it would probably save everybody an awful lot of time if they made this clear.

It is what it is. It's an open door radio show that pokes fun at the week's news. Some editions will be better than others.

All I can say is, I saw Yvette Cooper on the TV yesterday, and knew who she was. I also know the weight of the NASA satellite and women in Saudi aren't allowed to drive.

Plus my sketch writing has improved 100%.
