The World Of... Acting (video)

Hello all,

Here's the sketch I wrote for "The World Of.." --it's about method actors.

Let me know what you think!

Nice one - liked the pacing and the way it builds up then calms down. Professionally filmed too.

Thanks, Michael. Yes, they did a great job of the filming.

That was funny, well done.

Nice job. Particularly enjoyed the performance of the guy with the hair. Some work on the sound would make the stabbing a bit more effective I thought.

Thanks, David. That is high praise because I've seen your some of your work and the standard is excellent.

I haven't met any of the cast or crew but I think the guy with the long hair is Dan Thomas. His performances in all of the sketches (you'll see a few more on the right on the YouTube page) are very strong. I think it's his background in stand-up. He knows how to deliver funny without it looking like someone trying to be funny.

And that's a good point about the sound with the stabbing. I'll mention that to the producers and see if they can do anything.

So he is, in fact it turns out we're Facebook friends.

Just edited my above post-same content, but nicer wrapping!

Thank you very much, Evan. The sound's an easy fix - I'm surprised they didn't see to it the first time round as the rest of the production is really slick.

Great video,.
Acting was really awesome and I appreciate the effort put in this video,. thanks for the sharing here,.

Top notch.

Very good acting and I love the double punch.

Only thing is the guy who doesn't talk cos he plays a loner talks to quickly, if he's so much in character.

And the I cut my leg off line needs a line about why he now has 2 legs.

Otherwise fantastic.

Good stuff.

American woman was very good - her timing was bang on, agree with David re sound. But also look at the visual grammar, you keep pulling back to wide and it doesn't help. If you have the shots still I would re-edit. Also a pacier edit, punch straight into the lines on medium and close up etc, it's a bit of a flat edit for the material you have written. Lines like we had a problem with the script but is has been sorted now, doesn't add anything and doesn't really make any sense in the context.

Nice one, look forward to seeing more :)

Thanks Prince, SootyJ and Marc--I'm chuffed!

SootyJ: Glad you liked the double-punch. Not sure if the "chopped leg" needs an explanation--the other character says he grew gills. I think the chopped leg line is where the characters step out of reality. But anyway, it's valuable to see how other people interpret the "logic" of the sketch. Bugger. Just realised it could have been funnier if he'd said he'd chopped his leg off and then grew it back for his next part. Doh! Okay, you were right. You're a good ideas man, SootyJ!

Marc: I really appreciate your feedback, particularly because I was being so sarky with you the other day. You're a big man, Marc, and you have my apologies. With regards to your commments, it's ironic that, having said to SootyJ that the lines don't necessarily need explanation, I wrote the business about the script having troubles specifically to explain why they hadn't been informed about which part they were up for. As to the comments about the film grammar, I agree with you and shall pass them on to the "World Of..." team. Thanks for your help.

I'm afraid that's all I've got show for the moment--but there are other sketches in this project written by other writers. You can see them here:-

Coolio

My view was a simple thing like

"I chopped my leg off"

"No you didn't its right there"

"You just think it is,that's how good I am!"

I enjoyed that, nice one. Very professional production, great acting all round and a funny script.

The guy with the hair looks like a young Dominic West from the Wire.
