I think the f**kers still got the lion in the end though. :(

Wow, what an experience that must've been. Can you imagine the adrenalin that must've been coursing through that bloke, seeing that charging towards him?!

[quote name="DaButt" post="809307" date="September 17 2011, 11:33 PM BST" Many of my friends love animals That trophy deer head hanging in their cabin prevents mass starvation due to this year's severe drought.

Anyone who thinks differently is ill-informed.

Yes that would be about right.

So what do folk think about the Dale Farm business?

And then there's the burglar stabbed to death!

And then there's the burglar stabbed to death!

Arresting someone for killing a burglar boggles my mind. The cops here would applaud a citizen for doing so and he/she wouldn't spend a minute in cuffs, much less be charged with murder.

So they just believe the house owner no questions asked? Sounds a bit stupid to me.

They should get arrested, the incident should get properly investigated, and then they should be let go without charge (if they were indeed just defending themselves from burgling scumbags). And that's exactly what's been happening here.

I'm not sure I'd want to live in a country where any death is 'applauded'. Sounds a bit crass and unpleasant.

It takes mere minutes to determine whether someone is allowed to be in a dwelling. All you have to do is ask the resident. The outcome will almost always be thus: someone with an extensive criminal record was found inside the home of a law-abiding citizen. Case closed.

An arrest is a serious incident. You can't/shouldn't remove someone's freedom because a criminal decided to break into his/her house. He/she is a victim, not a suspect.

Any scumbag who breaks into someone's house deserves what he gets. I'll shed no tears for a burglar who gets filled full of holes.

Well yes, you can only ask the resident because the other guy is dead. Pretty easy for someone to get set up, I'd say.

As long as it is removed from their record (I have NO idea if it is or not) then I'm cool with that.
If someone has been killed, it is a serious incident.

Shedding no tears is absolutely fine, but is very different from applauding it and being deliriously happy.

"He invited me into his house, officer."

Should that be a watertight alibi? What if we're talking about a woman who was raped? Should the police hold the caller's integrity equal to the alleged criminal's in every case? Think about it.

I don't remember saying anything about "deliriously happy" but I'll always consider it a victory for civilized humanity when a criminal is bested by his intended victim.

And most peculiarly:
>Floral tributes to the dead man have been laid near the scene.

This news is nearly 4 years old but everytime we drive past this roundabout (as we did today) I always think of the car embedded in a first floor flat. I can't imagine what speed he was doing and with his 9 year old child on board? [*shudders]

A similar wreck took place on my street more than a decade ago and the driver turned out to have been in insulin shock.

"It is the third such incident in the city in the past few months. Peter Flanagan, 59, and florist Cecil Coley, 72, were both released without charge after stabbing intruders to death."
