In actuality they tend to be nature lovers

They love it so much they want to shoot a lion to death and pose with the body? That sounds like the kind of thing a serial killer would say.

In actuality they tend to be nature lovers and the huge amounts of money they pay to legally shoot game is used to preserve habitat and protect the species. These hunts are legal and scientifically calculated to support the species via preventing overpopulation.

This could be an anology for US foreign policy in microcosm.

We're gonna help you right after we shoot ya!

But like I say lions are scum, bullying, paedophilic scroungers. Give the choice I'd wipe them all out and replace them with monkeys in butler's outfits.
And penguins in monkey outfits.

That'd be hilarious.

We're talking about a lion though.
Even you can't be in favour of killing a lion for a laugh. The man in question is a c**t, pure and simple.

Hunting is not now a tool of science, as it was in the time of hunter-conservationists such as Frederick Selous, and while it may have a role in ecosystem management, I do not think these days many concerned naturalists would pay to hunt for trophies. Such trophy hunting may have economic benefits that support conservation, but because brothels contribute to the local economy that does not make the punters philanthropists. The guy is a dick.

On the hunting business a cat tried to bite me yesterday.

A cat tried to bite you on your hunting business? That could have been nasty, Soots. >_<

This "laugh" likely cost the gentleman $50,000 - $100,000. A limited number of permits are issued, based upon solid scientific research by experts. Population levels are maintained or even grown (depending on the amount of wildlife that can be supported on the preserve) and the substantial amount of money generated by such sanctioned hunts is what allows the preserves to survive.

Had this man driven through the plains with a truck-mounted machine gun and illegally mowed down dozens of lions, I would share your disgust. But he participated in a legal, once-in-a-lifetime hunt that was sanctioned by scientific experts and he actually helped to preserve Africa's lion population whether you like it or not.

Still a c**t. If he wasn't shooting that lion he'd be buggering a polar bear. He is a very rich banker with very high bonuses, I bet that 50-100k would be going towards a lot more than to pull a trigger. I doubt he's doingvit for conservational reasons. Turning it into a sport. It doesn't add to the justification.

You may a strong argument Randy but@ I believe there are better ways to preserve these animals. Butthat's no surprise comong from me.

Do a little research into the subject and you'll find that hunting programs are beneficial. Previously the indigenous people killed anything and everything to sell for a few dollars as bush meat. Now those same poachers earn a better living and help put hundreds of millions of dollars into the local economies while helping to preserve wilderness areas.

It's easy to say "don't kill any animals" but sometimes it's needed to prevent catastrophic damage to species due to overpopulation, starvation and/or disease.

DaButt has a point ask any development charity. And they will sy meaningful businesses beat handouts and tokenistic businsses everytime.

Hunters are willing to pay alot, so an infrastructure grows around them and small in number. Where as eco terrorists are a nuisance who pay less and turn up in larger numbers.

And as for preserving the animals, don't they usually stuff their kills?

If I won the lottery I'd pay Windsor Safari Park to run over a baboon and cut a lion up with a stanley knife. As I feel this would make me feel like a great big man.

I think the underlying issue here is that some of us are disgusted that anyone should gain pleasure from killing animals for their own pleasure, regardless of how much money they pay.

I think the f**kers still got the lion in the end though. :(

So how would you feel if a lion moved into your neighbourhood? And started offering kids sweets, maybe hanging around parks and taking photos of kids. Maybe you saw that lion hanging around in a newsagents nd was just watching school kids at lunchtime. You know what he's upto? But the law won't doing anything it might break his "lion's rights"

You'd want some fat banker and 6 guides to blow him away with a massive gun.

I know I would.

It's why I'm voting UKIP.

It's really not all that different than a woman lusting after a $200 leather purse/shoes -- they're just animal carcasses after all.

The lion herds have to be maintained by occasional culling. The killing can be done by a hunter willing to pay $50,000 or it can be done by a conservation officer who has to be paid.
