Just heard Ulrika ka ka promoting her new novel, and talking about her old column in News of the World, which started me thinking about the old discussion, that if clebs* get these sort of gigs just because of their fame, doesn't that mean there are properly talented writers who are missing out on being published and/or promoted? If so, is there a way to stop these clebs damaging our culture with their talentless drivel? Maybe form pressure groups, persecute the people who buy such books, or run the over with steamrollers?
*not that I'm saying Ulrika herself is untalented (I wouldn't know), I'm just thinking about the general issue.
