Miranda - Series 1 Page 46

Yes, I can understand, although not always agree with, most criticisms of "Miranda" but it not having any catchphrases or quotable lines is clearly nonsense, it addition to Mr Carmon's above I would add "Bear with" which my wife has annoyingly started to do.

It's one of the only current sitcoms that DOES have catchphrases!
Silly person.

What does having catchphrases, or not having them, have to do with a sitcom being any good?

When people enjoy a comedy show, they like to repeat a funny line from the show. A friend used to recite great chunks of Monty Python. Most folk recognise a line or two from the Dead Parrot sketch, or a catchphrase from Catherine Tate or Little Britain. I wonder how many schoolkids have been told "You're in detention!" and replied "Am I bovvered?" just to get a laugh from their mates.

Some sitcoms have tried to introduce a catchphrase but it hasn't caught on because it was never applicable in real life. Every week somebody in the Ted Ray show said "You should have used tighter elastic!" but nobody found it funny.

My biggest gripe with Miranda Hart is that she misses out on comedic opportunties. Lucille Ball took lessons from a comedy actor of the Silent Movies.

If she has to fall, make it a funny fall - remaining stiff as a board. When she has to reluctantly leave the room, she turns and waves a few times en route. Fine. But when she exits out of shot, if she waited 10 seconds and stuck her head round the door (as Stan Laurel did), I guarantee a laugh.

If you had no Sky plus and Catherine Tate & Miranda Hart had new shows showing simultaneously, which would you watch?

Miranda Hart. Hands down. No question.

Nothing, I don't think anyone claimed otherwise but it is factually incorrect to say that it doesn't have catchphrases.

Such fun !

worst catch phrase ever.

New or old, Miranda by miles. Even though I do find Tate funny too.
I've watched a lot of the Miranda episodes many times each. They bear up very well to repeat viewings.

Wow! She should get you to write Series 3 as you're obviously much better at this kind of stuff than she is!

How many hit BBC sitcoms have you written/starred in like the multi award winning Miss Hart?

:P

Watched an episode of Miranda for the first time tonight...she can add one more fan to her long list, loved it.

Do you all think it's coincidence that most popular comics now are middle class and ex-uni? Were they family-financed for the Edinburgh Festival?

I'm still fighting the good fight and keepin it realz.

I write my bits in flint on a brick wall, I survive by bottling puddle water and I stitch together a suit of leaves to perform in.

Puddles?! As in water, on the ground? That's practically a swimming pool, you flash git :)
We lick the mould off of street walls for nutrition, while watching Miranda not even in the shop window, but in the reflection of the shop window on the other side of the road

Has this thread turned into a Yorkshire-off?

:D Hey Up! its Aaron how is ya doin' lad? Heard nowt off thee for ages.
