The Spicer Life - Episode Six: The Job

Image

The last episode of the series and my personal favourite.

Episode Six: The Job - Jeremy's packing his stuff ready to leave the university campus but there's light at the end of the tunnel, Keith Chegwin tweets Jeremy offering him a one week unpaided trial as his PA. Can things get any worse for Jeremy?

I don't really know what to say much in the way of Critique.
But I have listened to all of these, even after I realised that they were knocking on for over 13 minutes.

Well done for putting them out there, and well done for your great effort in all aspects of your career.

I think overall there were some good bits in the series.
And playing an exaggerated version of yourself certainly brought it towards some realism.

How has it gone down within the industry James?

I must admit that the emotional ending did blow me away.
You've set the bar for saving it at the end.

Your turn Torchwood

:) Yeah I know they've got longer as the series has gone on.

Thanks for the well done I'm pleased I've got a series out there rather just a pilot.

I've had some good feedback from people but would like to get more feedback from people industry as I think the series has really built and there's more to do there with help.

Ok positives first. This is good, sighing reduced. Lots of nice character gags, all the stuff about building his hous good stuff.
Funny and affecting. Especially like how he has reduced Newsnight to a BBC 2 program.

So it's 90% on enoute.

But on the negative...

Th linear nature of the plot makes it closer to tragedy than comedy. e.g. he gets striaght away that Cheggers is taking the piss.

And it is kinda affecting how h breaks down.

But if there was just a point of revelation, rather than him almost instantly knowing that he's been taken advantage of.

:) With regards to the positives thank you I do think this is properly the strongest all round episode.

It's always from day one had the elements of tragedy or drama in it although especially in this episode even the most dramatic moment is still full of comedy like the jockstrap line.

I mean it's a funny tragedy rather than a comedy. In that how ever humiliated Basil Fawlty is, at the end of the day he still knows he's smarter than everyone else and better than them.

So when Spicer gets he's wasted his life and will probably end up getting raped by a drunk Cheggers (the episode I'd write). Then it is tragedy because he's f**ked he knows it and it pretty much destroys him.

Comedy monsters and heroes are indomitable. We see them fall and fail, get their nose rubbed in life's runny dog mess. But still they rise still they go on. It's that knowledge which makes them funny and inspiring.

Imagine if Del Boy said "You know Rodders we ain't gonna be millionaires this Christmas or ever. I'm going to start selling smack."

I agree completely I get what your saying but disappointedly Jeremy will rise again but not quite in the usual sitcom way. I mean I know I've been the programme up a lot in reference to Spicer but Marion and Geoff does a similar thing in it does directly wipe the slate clean and start from the beginning like Fawlty Towers.

That's cool just pointing out what you're writing to me is closer to dramedy than sitcom.

Nothing wrong with that though.

Good stuff, though it's improved as the series went on.

nb I may write the Cheggers rape scenario for shits and giggles.

Yeah I am and thanks,

Would love to see that scene.
