OPN and Competitions around the North West wanted

are their any venues around Lancashire, Manchester and Liverpool needing a new, young comedian hoping for experience?
Competitions, Gong shows, 10 minute fillers, anything.
Not looking to be paid at the moment.
For gigs in Manchester and Liverpool I'll need a weeks notice at least so I can sort out transport.

Have a look on the Manchester Comedy Forum, http://www.manchestercomedyforum.co.uk/, it's the best place for finding gigs and seeing what's happening in the North West.

Yeah I'm on there already. Just doing all I can on everywhere to find gigs! Cheers anyway fella!

Quick bit of advice, even when you're quite well known promoters won't come to you with offers of gigs (well not very often anyway), you've got to contact them, so get emailing and ringing around.

Also go to gigs, get your face known and speak to the organisers personally, comedy is all about personal relationships, go to Beat The Frog in Preston and introduce yourself to the compere and whoever is in charge on the night.

Get to know other open spots in your area, suggest to promoters that you can travel together.

Spiky Mike, Funhouse Comedy, runs some "friendly" gong shows in the Midlands, see if you can get a car load of NW open spots to do one of those.

You need to be proactive though, just posting on forums and waiting for the phone to ring or the emails to come in will get you nothing.

Yeah I know I've had one email for a last minute gig already and I'm emailing frantically to venues and promoters and posting here will be worth it if I get a single gig out of it (even if I manage to contact Funhouse Comedy because of you). Cheers for the suggestion of Spiky Mike, I'll get on it now. I've only been on these forums for a couple of days on here, Manchester, Yorkshire and Chortle. I'm leaving no stone unturned!

I can't recommend Beat The Frog in Preston enough. Very friendly gig (for a going show).

I'm *apparently* doing it next Wednesday but I'm waiting anxiously for an email back for confirmation. My friend goes every week and she loves it. Just a shame there are only two Frog and Bucket venues.

Yeah but at least they're only in your region, ey? I was stuck in a car for three hours on the way to Preston!

It might be worth coming to the North East if you can get a car load.

Jesus! You travelled almost coast to coast to come to Preston of all places?? You trooper! And yeah I'm grateful for it here. It sucked more I moved to university the same time FaB popped up! What venues are there in in the North East?

There are tonnes Kyle. Maybe arund 10 open mic nights accross Newcastle, Sunderland etc in a month, some of them weekly and some of them not! I'll see if I can find my contacts sheet for you. Hang about.

Cheers Nat! Proper grateful!

You life saviour! If I manage to get a gig I'll make sure I'll get you a drink!

If I called in every pint a comedian owed me, I'd be perpetually wasted.

Ooooh as well, you've got The Verve in Leeds. If you get it on a good night it's supposed to be amazing. Unfortunately I got it on a bad night and there were three people in! patrick.devine@ntlworld.com for booking.
