Ah, another patronising, insulting arsehole. :)

Take it I'm the other one? Because I said you sound like you have a nostalgic crush? Christ.

I used to fancy Emma Bunton, but I'm not patronizing myself when I admit it.

I think calling us that is a case of double standards. This being the internet and not real life I don't suppose it matters. But...

Lovely to see we have so many on the board.

I read on these boards yesterday that; A Good Female Attractive Writer Still Evades Us. Is that less patronizing and insulting and bitter and shallow and stereotypical and less "lovely" than what I said? Really?

Whatever.

Rolling eyes

That wasn't what was said. You added "Female" and changed the meaning. With reference to Take That, any artist (singer, film maker, whatever) wants to create something of sufficient quality that lasts. And they've made pop songs that do that, so they've already done more than most.

Chip,
I'm sorry to be reduced to posting something that doesn't feel productive or remotely comedic as this isn't a current affairs forum, but don't make me out to be a liar.

I wasn't quoting, but I'm quoting now. I was on about the following exchange.

chip: "I never realised but Stephenie "Twilight" Meyer is that rare beast - an attractive writer."

zoo: "But not an attractive good writer. That still evades us."

So when she said "But not an attractive good writer" Who is she is talking about? Stephanie Meyer? Thought so. Is that the meaning that I allegedly changed?

Then the sentence after that "That still evades us" Is that an unconnected random statement or she making reference to what she'd just said.

She said 'not a... good writer' so is she talking about? ALL writers, or making specific ref to the one you posted a pic of? The pic of a female?

As for Take That, or Blue, Or Jedward, Boyzone and whoever else, fine. Not my thing but if they dance in synch and sing songs about topics that some people like then it's a worthy addition to modern culture. Others may prefer musicians who actually have something to say or portray genuine emotion. Just one of those things I guess.

I'm leaving it now because I'm not pissing off a moderator who can ban me for seeming hostile. If Zooo says Take That aren't hacks, then fine, I'll agree if it means not being thought of as weird, or insulting etc.

I saw a moment of it. Some fluffy haired girl acting all 'sweet' and 'shy' and nicking Ellie Goulding's act. Everyone seemed to buy it though...

I switched it off.

I don't know who E.G is but I thought her audition was quite good. Genuine. I bought it :D

I think the probem you're having is lumping all pop together as 'bad'.
In my opinion (well in fact, really) Take That are one of the few pop bands that DO do everything you just listed. They do play instruments, write some decent songs, and so on. Especially Barlow, which is how this rather ridiculous and boring discussion came about.

You (the plural you) could have stuck to insulting him, but you (again, plural) chose to start insulting people who like his music as well. And seing as I'd just pretty clearly said that I did, insulting me.

If you (if you need reminding, plural) can't see that that's going to get my back up, then I'm pretty surprised.

Additionally 'Your Song' is an Elton John song, plus the girl auditioning had that cool Irish twang to her voice. I've just listening to E.G version. Meh. :D

Also, suggesting that I would get you banned for disagreeing with me about Take That is pretty ridiculous and insulting too. So well done on that.

I just thought she was putting on an act. She probably doesn't even know herself that she's doing it, she's only 16. But acting cute and fluffy probably gets her ahead in life, so fair enough. ;)

Hah! I'm not bothered about the cute and fluffy thing either. I just thought it was a bit harsh to instantly dismiss her for copying that Ellie woman. Seeing as 90% of auditioners copy their idol. But seeing as that wasn't the reason, then fair enough. Plus, I don't want to defend anything on this show. So I'll shuddup.

I just thought she was literally doing an impression of Goulding and then all the judges were acting like it was the most original performance they'd ever seen! But I've only heard her a couple of times on the radio, so maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe she should have done an impression of Elliott Gould? No reason other than the names are similar. Errr

Wow. That would have been something to see.

I suppose I was getting more at the high culture-low culture divide. I'd never buy anything by Barlow and would much rather listen to Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen or any of a dozen other miserable gits with technically terrible voices. But I recognise that some of what the chubby Northerner's done has a certain skill and artistry.

That said, he's a terrible choice of judge for X-Factor because he's too nice, ie, dull as dishwater.

Apparently he's been quite mean. But only to the talentless ones. Which is rather refreshing. I think the reason he's doing the show is to actually let through the good people and keep out the morons.
Revolutionary thinking, I know.
