I'm not giving this any 'leeway' because of Popper; I like Look Around You, but it's not a favourite or anything. I've put up nice posts about this show because, for me, it works and I enjoy it. I've enjoyed it more than any other Brit sitcom so far this year.

Maybe you have enjoyed it; but I'm certain that some people around here have been more kind either in a) their actual judgement of it, and/or b) what they've said about it, because of the writer.

Quite possibly, though it certainly feels like this thread has had more negative than positive reactions in general.

And rightly so! ;)

There were a few great moments (the texts to Adam from his mum's phone in episode 2 - 'I wish I'd aborted you' etc). Hopefully he'll concentrate on producing more of those in the next series.

...which would be the reverse of what generally happens, surely? It's more often that people are unkind about something by somebody well known/successful?

I think it's a great show. The only sticking point for me is Mark Heap doing his 'character' again.

I don't like this show and yet...usually if I don't like something I stop watching it after the second episode (if that), but I've sat through the whole series, so it must have something drawing me in, however slight (Hmmm, it might be that Tom Rosenthal is pleasant to look at, now that I come to think about it...)

Others have commented on how 'Dad' constantly says 'What?' for no reason and for me this highlights what's wrong with the series, I suspect the 'reason' is that's exactly what Popper's Dad does - too much of the series felt like one big injoke, with little thought given to making it funny for people who aren't actually related to RP. Oh, and Alison Graham loved it to bits (proving yet again that she is NEVER right!)

Oi, that's my wife you're talking about!

Alison Graham is a disgrace.

A Steve Wright in the Afternoon level of disgrace? Has she done something specific to rile you?

She just seems like a joyless old bat who doesn't want to like anything whenever I read her reviews.

You could almost be talking about me.

I remember this as being widely advertised as featuring a Jewish family, but I really didn't get what was particularly Jewish about it. Kept waiting for some sort of insight or explanation but it never arrived..

Look who has been cast in the American pilot:

The family getting together every Friday for dinner is apparently a Jewish tradition.

I know Shabbat begins Friday sundown, but still don't get what in the show was meant to be particularly Jewish
