British Comedy Guide

Music Rights

Morning all.

So, I'm making a short film. A comedy film to enter into cofilmic.

And there's a piece of music I want to use.

I've approached the band and the record label and they've both agreed I can use it for free.

So I've been looking on-line for contracts I can tweak - it's a short film I can't afford a lawyer - but I keep coming up a bit short.

I did find one example contract, but it was scary as hell threatening to take them to the cleaners if they put a foot wrong. There's no way I'll get them to sign that.

Can anyone give me some advice or point me in the right direction or anything really.

I understand you need two contracts one for publishing and one for recording rights.

thanks
Austin

Just get them to write a letter giving you permission to use it is all you need. They aren't going to sue you and you can tell the comp organisers that you have permission. You don't need a contract just permission.

How did they agree to it? Email or letter? If it's in writing I'd keep that.

Super. Cheers folks.

That was a nice pic of you the other day Marc.

Cheers AA, if that is appropriate :)
