does anyone know how many listeners Newsjack gets?

In podcast form, 71,623

As for the iPlayer, I have no idea. I'd guess the number of people who listen to the show live on the Thursday night would be 820 (The 780 who didn't get on, the 20 who did get on, the mums of the 20 who did get on)

Not a figure I've heard before, but encouragement to anyone thinking about contributing - comfortably the biggest audience for any new writing initiative in the UK right now.

Even assuming no-one listens live...which seems pessimistic!

Well if a mere 20,000 listen live, and 71,623 to the podcast, it's the equivalent of filling Wembley Stadium. Not bad going.

What happens if you are writing a gig to fill Wembley Stadium?

It would be good if one day it graduated to Radio 4 and they had an extended repeat on 4 Extra.

Is this right-Wembley Stadium can fit about a million people? Doesn't seem that credible.

20,000 plus 70,000 ain't a million.

Sorry, I got confused with my 984,000 at the beginning.

Does that mean there are about 894,000 people listening to Radio 4 Extra but not Newsjack? It seems to.

Been away from here for a while and just stuck my beak in again for the first time. And what does my eye fall on? This feckin thread, that's what!!

Why has this bloody show come back to haunt me?

Hey Blenky, welcome back. Your weekly updates of the failings of the Newsjack autoreply robot always sooth the pain of of weekly rejection :D

Surprised to see you posting, Will after your B & B problems...

Before I post this need to clarify Newsjack is clearly the biggest opportunity for comedy writers because your stuff gets seen by the BBC. And a few NJers have gone onto bigger things.

But is it the biggest audience? Let's say 80,000 for the sake of argument.

Clearly anything I've written that's been performed live has not got anywhere near that figure. The O2 is a long way away from The Brighton Pavilion.

But on YouTube there must be a reasonable chance of getting near that. Although there's a lot of 'comedy' out there with <1000 hits.

We also have had a few pieces on NewsThump (the biggest and best of the Onion rip-offs, ahem). They have about 15k followers on Twitter and 10k Fans on facebook. Now given not everyone reading is going to declare an interest you could argue that'a an audience of tens of thousands.

Never actually done a podcast but have thought about it. Might be the same problem as YouTube - if you're an unknown how do you get people to subscribe.

Twitter - be struggling to get more than a thousand followers I'd say.

So what is the best way to get your comedy seen by the most people?

Punch Rupert Murdoch?

Dan

Double edged sword that.
