The Bible Basher Page 2

I think he's doing Noahs ark next were he plays Noah and Danny Glover plays a CG Giraffe. "NOAH!! You crazy Son of a B*tch" just what I heard though.
Personally I think I'ts going to end up a bit preachy, but don't knock it before it comes out right.

I've done it! I've managed to read the entire Bible of the course of a year!

Yeah He knows..

I expect He'll call you to his study at some point.. ;)

Did you manage to understand it?

So did Jesus have a girlfriend?

Excuse me. It may be OK to pot-shot each work and critique with crude vulgarity, but not the Bible, please. You wouldn't do it to the Qu'ran. This site has great potential. I shall be an avid contributor.

Why wouldn't we do it to the Qu'ran? You Should go and see some standup.

The reason why I wouldn't do the Qu'ran is because I don't know much about Islam, whereas I do know quite a lot about Christianity and in particular Catholicism, due to being brought up as one and going to a Catholic school. In fact, my horrible days at school were one of my main motivations.

Oh no, please, really; if someone wants to take pot shots at the bible or any other 'holy' book then they can. You dont have to read or agree, its called freedom of speech.

I'm an advocate of freedom speech, but you would not poke fun at the Qu'ran because it can ruin your career, as would being rude about black people and other PC subjects. You may well want true freedom of speech as I do, but you dare not practice it in your writing. It seems the motto is, attack those subjects that embrace your premise, but not those that can hit back. It's called, cowardice.

A christian, a muslim and a jew walk into a bar.......you can make your own jokes up.

Freedom of Speech does not mean that you must go around offending people. As Ian said he's speaking on a subject that he knows well. Its the same reason i can speak with authority on subjects such as women, being dumped by women, being slapped by women, being belittled by women, being out-wrestled by women, being out smarted by women etc.

Stand ups do talk about such subjects but those that do it just to be controversial aren't very good in my opinion. Its much better to talk about how you relate to the world rather than how you think the world should relate to you.

Maybe you could give use some jokes about the Qu'ran jerf

Of course I would, you dont know me or, I dare say, anyone else on this site so you cant make those kind of judgements. Having a go at religion is, I would say, also quite different to having a go at someone because theyre black; if you think its the same then youre just wrong.

In this day and age, with who knows what nasty things being done in the name of whatever god/gods you believe in, I think pricking the bubble of religious pomposity and hypocrisy is an important thing to do. Anyone unshakable in their own beliefs shouldnt be at all offended or worried by something some stranger says.

Well, I admire your patience, fortitude, and all that stuff Ian. Comparing different religions is a fascinating (uhm) hobby! My bookshelf seems to be crammed partly with an assortment of Bibles, Book of Mormon, The Mo Letters, Alistair Crowley, Scientology tomes, Malleus Maleficarum etc., loads of things about the Templars, Hinduism, Mysticism, and (the one I tend to go for more than most) aspects of Buddhism. Some of it I revisit now and again (because I didn't understand much of it in the first place) ... and unfortunately I don't necessarily 'believe' much of it at all (except the zen dimension). Fire and brimstone (whatever that is) for me then (uhm) maybe!

p.s. Oh, and I agree with Matthew ... his post got in same time as mine and I hadn't seen it!

I think what Jerf means is that the 'cowardice' comes in when a comedian knocks Christians and Jews etc but won't knock the Muslims because he doesn't want his head on a stick.

In that instance picking on easy targets (that won't strike back with a fatwah) is a form of cowardice, that's one reason the Slaggs never touch religion.
