One of Jeremy Clarkson's compilations of his articles from whatever newspaper he writes for. Articles that are 5 years old.
An unusual find in a charity shop. An enormous book, part of the Band-Aid bandwagon. Bought it because it's probably the only book that contains Asterix (odd translation - strips not from the books and the French names not Anglicized), Tintin (The Black Island in its entirety) and Lucky Luke, as well as Archie, Danger Mouse, Spiderman (And Men Shall Call Him...Octopus!), Superman, Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, Masters of the Universe, Peanuts, Judge Dredd, Mandrake, The Wizard of Id, Jane, Disney and Looney Tunes strips, Beano and Dandy strips, and much more. A fair bit of crap, such as Gummi Bears, the Wuzzles, Rupert, a Scooby Doo story (non-comic format) and various little-known strips that seem to have been conceived and mercifully killed in the 80s. Alas, nothing from Viz or Mad. Also, there's a Smurf on the back cover, but I can't find any Smurfs inside the book. Pages not numbered and no Contents page(s).
That looks flipping amazing.
About to start 'Dead Air' - Iain Banks. Haven't a clue what it's about.
Dead Air is good, but peculiarly retro already. Suppose it was a big enough event to warrant a writer trying to explore it, but runs the risk of not having longevity. Probably not a huge problem for someone as well known as Iain Banks though. Actually, will read again this weekend- keep me updated on your thoughts!
Between watching TV and pissing about here, I've reached page 50 and am enjoying it. But really hoping he won't bed his best friend's daughter! Don't tell me the answer!
People who deliberately reveal what happens in a book (or football results) should have their eyes confiscated until they understand why their actions were wrong. Glad you're enjoying it!
Physically and emotionally exhausted after the final 100 pages of 'Dead Air'.

Ha, goes from mooch around town to high tension quite quickly, doesn't it?

Don't know. I'm trying to avoid books so I'll get on with various other urgent things. Have a copy of 'Ulysses' somewhere which I'm determined to read but will have to pick the right moment.

I was so looking forward to reading Ulysses and being smug about how it's not difficult, but had to give up about a fifth of the way through after developing migraines and irrational mood swings, and an attempt to gnaw my arm off to distract from the maddening futility of it all. Makes a good doorstop though
