It's weird when you and Aaron talk on here now. Just sayin'.

:D

Thunderbirds (Riley Major's)
Dangermouse (Riley's)
Various Disney
Toy Story - 2 and 3 are on DVD
Oh - and the Rileys committing matrimony

We have NINE HOURS of videotape of our first holiday after we got the video camera. It was SO tempting to invite friends round to watch our holiday video.

funny this thread comes along cos only yesterday I was thinking about how crap videos were compared to DVD

remember when you really wanted to watch a video only to find some douche hadnt rewound the pissing thing the last time they watched it?

or if there was like 3 episodes on the tape and you had to fanny about fastforwarding and rewinding and fastforwarding until you found the start

and theyre so big and clanky

good riddance

to BAD rubbish

Well I loved the whole ambiance.

But we didn't know any better!

Also, at least when a video went wrong you could faff about with a knife or pen and roll it back up again. If a DVD freezes that's it, nothing you can do.

Plus if you tried to freeze frame a video when a girly got her norks out it was all distorted and you couldn't see what...was...er....erm..well

nevermind

I'm always on the hunt for old DJ competitions on VHS. I've already got 3 shelves, that are each about 7 feet long, filled with the things, and I'm not stopping until I own every one that was ever released. To my knowledge, there's only about 20 others that that I don't have yet, which were released, before DVDs took over. If you've never seen a DJ competition, check out the clip I posted in the YouTube video thread a couple of days ago.

Of course, I still buy vinyl as well, and I've got another 3 shelves filled with records.

Oh, and another thing I still collect is music magazines. Actually, I'm becoming a bit of a geek about the whole thing. I was sorting them out the other night, putting them in see-through plastic covers, then into some milk-crates, and I could feel myself getting a little buzz everytime I did it. I need to get out more!

Speaking of magazines, I've just found out that I've won one on eBay for a penny!

Is it a 'gentleman's magazine?

Is it a 'gentleman's magazine?

It's funny you should say that, because I did recently buy a copy of GQ (Gentleman's Quarterly), from 1983. It had an article in it entitled "Fashion's Newest Trend", which was all about the exploding early Rap/DJing/Breakdancing/Graffiti Art scene in New York. I actually know one of the people they interviewed for it. He was one of the early breakdancers, back when he was a kid.

I thought that too.

Oh, one of my longest surviving video tapes (although back at my family home) is Men Behaving Badly: Jingle Balls. It's like indestructible or something? Every time I go through draws it pops up. I'm tempted to smash it up and cut the tape to see if it comes back in mint condition.

Back in 1996 you could buy Euro96 branded box sets of 8 blank VHS videos especially to record matches from the tournament. I ended up getting two and filled up most of them with the full live matches, the 1966 World Cup Final plus an England v Scotland comedy quiz hosted by Father Ted actor, Dermot Morgan.

Some of those matches I turned off while watching them live so quite why I still have them on video I have no idea. I guess at the time I thought I was recording English sporting history.

The first thing I ever recorded, back in 1987, was a special match between English First Division players and a "Rest of the World" team, marking the 100th Anniversary of the Football League, and I still have it. It featured Maradona, Platini, Josimar and many other stars of the time.
