Homes and antiques on daytime TV

OK, this is something I can't hold in any longer... what the f**k is up with daytime TV's obsession with antiques and home buying. Is there seriously no other topics people are interested in at that time of day?

You may think I'm exaggerating but take today, Friday 4th Jan 2008, as an example. This is what I just spotted in the schedule...

09:15 - 10:00 Wanted Down Under (Homes)
10:00 - 11:00 Homes Under The Hammer (Homes)
11:00 - 11:30 What Not To Buy (Homes)
11:30 - 12:15 Cash in the Attic (Antiques)
12:15 - 13:00 Bargain Hunt (Antiques)

So that's nearly four hours of back-to-back Homes and Antiques. Then in the afternoon...

14:00 - 15:00 Dickinson's Celebrity Real Deal (Antiques)
14:00 - 14:45 Sun, Sea and Bargain Spotting (Antiques + Homes!!!)
14:45 - 15:45 Escape to the Country (Homes)
15:45 - 16:30 Flog It (Antiques)
17:25 - 18:00 Place in the Sun (Homes)
20:00 - 21:00 Place in the Sun: Home or Away (Homes)

Another, er, five hours something of Homes and Antiques!

I thought today might be a special day but a quick flick forwards and backwards in the TV mag shows that every day is like this, some days worse when there's prime time hour-long shows like Location, Location, Location on.

Now I don't watch daytime TV anymore but it makes me sick all these hours of schedules are being wasted on the same topic. Could just one be a comedy? Actually perhaps that's it - they're deliberately making it dull to try and keep the country's productivity up?!?

I quite enjoy a few of those, but ugh, I do agree on the whole. There's far, far too much of the same on - and much of it is repeats. This is what our licence fee goes towards.

I've no wish to spoil your rants and raves Mark but have you though about getting a job?

He works from home.

Then take his TV away.

But he runs a comedy site...

But he runs a comedy site...

So why is he watching Home and Antique programmes then? He'd do better watching some comedy.

But that's the point. He's not. He just saw them in the listings. >_<

Why is he reading the listings? he should be watching comedy :D

I agree Mark. Who wants to look at Dickie Davidson's tangoed face. The guy looks like something from an 80's horror film. "I know what you sold last summer". Urghhhhhhh. Have you seen his wife. My God she is Fugly!!

The only home programme I watch is 60 minutes makeover. That is only to see the blonde bird blow a whistle in slow motion. Proof that no gal is attractive whilst blowing. (I caught site of my face during a blow once. Not attractive). She also gets skinnier each day. I am waiting for her to disapear in 60 minutes alltogether. Fooking Whore!

I expect he was scanning the listings to see if there was any good comedy on TO watch. :P

I find them strangely relaxing to watch. However - does anyone actually MAKE any money on Bargain Hunt?

60 minute makeover? That would hardly make a dent in you.

Yep! David Dickinson.

Sexy whistle blowing - sounds like I've under-estimated home makeover shows!

And Ray / Dave - I'm not actually watching them, was just looking at the listings to see if there was any comedy on (there wasn't - hence the rant. If there was, yes, I admit it, my productivity would fall rapidly ;) - like it did when Monk was on - good show that!)

(Thanks for sticking up for me Aaron!)
