Does anyone remember that sitcom "Prince Among Men"? With Chris Barrie (Red Dwarf, Brittas Empire) That was about a footballer.

I remember the theme tune and a joke involving a table that came down from the ceiling.

Oh, and Gary Prince signing a piece of paper so his sig could go on t-shirts, and the paper had something humorous on the back which also got printed.

It had that woman who played Shelley's quite attractive for an old bird mum in Corrie.

I remember thinking it was quite good, when I was about 11.

Shame because Chris Barrie is nothing short of a brilliant comedy actor, and should be in a new sitcom.

There was Alan Bleasdales 'Scully' Channel 4 (1984).

I loved Scully - it was really funny as I remember. It had the advantage of the other decent football comedies in that it didn't show much/any football. I love football, but in any comedy or drama even the crowd scenes generally don't look realistic, never mind on-the-pitch action.

Apologies if anyone has already mentioned, but apart from Scully my favourite foot-coms are the Harry Enfield sketch of Arsenal 1930s vs Liverpool 1990s and the best of them all, Gregory's Girl.

I remember Scully now you mention it. One of the reasons I watched it was because I was a big Elvis Costello fan but if I remember rightly he was quite simple and never actually said anything.

But he did sing the theme song "Turning the Town Red". Not much of an actor, but a great musician (back then anyway)

B-side to one of his 12"ers and a great song at his peak. Thanks for reminding me.

The worst of all the shows, for me, had to be 'Bread'. The way the characters seemed to take pride in the fact that they were on the dole used to make my skin crawl.

Yes, agreed. Vile, vile people.

Characters, don't you mean? They were made up (la).

Ohhh fine. Vile characters. Same difference. :P

Well, in Scotland there is a football related comedy.

It's called Only An Excuse and it stars Jonathan Watson who impersonates the main figures of Scottish football. It is on every Hogmanay and is consistently funny.

Up here, it is an institution. The festive period would not be the same without it.

Here's one from that show, not sure what its got to do with football though.
Might be a bit too regional for the English/Welsh contingent.
