BBC pays what? million or 2 a year. In exchange for a punishing filming schedule and being wedded firmly to one character (ok and the DVD sales)
Hollywood pays 5 times that for a lot less work.
And not being linked to one character.
Unlike the other Dr's Ecclesone is a succesful Hollywood actor (ok B list)
So it makes sense he'd wanna get out as quick as possible.
Seems weird he's the only person who felt bullied.

That's rubbish. And he didn't say HE felt bullied. He didn't like the way the show was being run or the way people were being treated, so he left; hardly terrible of him is it? And of course to have stayed would have been the wisest thing career-wise. And he's not a b-list Hollywood actor, he's much lower down the list. If he'd stayed on longer, chances are he might actually now be higher up that list.
Nah he' have been associated with one role, like poor old Tennant.
Besides they halved the salary for Tennant the next year.

It's probably/possibly the wording of the article rather than the wording of Eccles, but he rather suggests 'Well *I* was noble enough to leave when I saw bullying, but evidently the rest of the cast and my replacement don't give a shit about other people so they were perfectly happy to stay.'

The same Tennant about to appear in a big Hollywood film? Who has been working consistantly in many different roles on TV, film and radio since he left? Plus Tennant was the new guy, and not as big a name, so new contract, Ecc's would not automatically have taken a big cut.

Sounds like it was the crew and so on who were being treated badly, so obviously we don't know how many of them chose to move on. Though we don't know how easy it would be for those people to just jump ship; obviously he can move on easy enough, maybe a best boy can't! 
From what I understand, the making of that first series was quite pressured and horrible in many ways, so things probably calmed down a lot come the next few years.
